On a recent trip to Bonaire we took a boat dive across to Klein Bonaire. As the dive boat banter got into high gear, we were almost believing that there are seahorses down there, even....blue ones? Up until this time we had not been able to find any of these elusive little beauties. Once they are pointed out to you a couple times they seem so obvious. We eventually saw them in red, brown and like the one pictured below, yellow!

Seahorse I

We saw the resident red horse off Captain Don's dock and others at Karpata and Angel City. I have to say, however, that the frog fish did elude us (they saw us... we just didn't recognize them). That alone gives us a reason to return.

Seahorse II

And now the next fish is our mascot for Bonaire. They were our dive buddies on almost every dive. It only took us about 10 dives to remember what they were called..........and now the drum roll............. Here is the Spotted Drum. They don't like to pose for long, must be that heavy sash they carry with them.

Spotted Drummer

On our dry dock day (the day before we had to leave) we were snorkeling at Windsock beach with the crumbs of our film, we happened upon the most spectacular, graceful and elegant Spotted Eagle Ray. My heart leapt as I tried to grasp a photo. I had seen a program before we left for our Bonaire trip about spotted eagle rays in Indonesia. I had no idea how big they are. Thanks Bonaire!

Thanks for sharing the great pictures. I, too have had the wonderful experience or snorkeling above a graceful Spotted Eagle Ray. I watched every minute in awe as it glided through the water and it was and experience that will be long remembered!
