I will be returning for a third trip to Bonaire in September, in a group that includes a paraplegic individual. He actually holds a full NAUI C-card, having passed all the requirements for that certification.

Our challenge is getting him from the truck into water deep enough to swim! While he has suggested, and would be quite happy with, a wheelbarrow (!), I am wondering if there is any place to rent or borrow equipment that would facilitate the transfer process, sparing our backs and reducing the possibility of injury.

Of course, we will also verify, with the operators of the few boat dives that we have scheduled, acceptable access from a platform, lift, etc.

Would appreciate any information, suggestions, or leads. Thanks.

Divi has always been very accomodating to handicapp divers. I have watch them help many special needs. The staff seems very comfortable with their needs. I would talk to them.

Jim, I am not sure if this will help you this trip or even if it is possible in the future..but here on our beach we have beach chairs that have big wheels that can go over the sand/whatever! when pushed maybe some of the resorts or the "bus" would think about offering this type of equipement. I think they are called "roller chairs"
