We saw the largest sea horse I have seen to date during a night dive at Town Pier in August. You will need to go with a guide and get a permit to dive this though. Our guide took us later (10 pm) and it was not crowded, it was a good time to go.

Depending on how experienced you are at finding well-camouflaged critters of any kind, perhaps the best "site" to find sea horses is one that you go to with a divemaster and that is known for sea horses. Ebby at Toucan is exceptionally good at finding them. With that said, we have seen them both on our own and with a divemaster's help at the Yellow Submarine area of Something Special, Petries Pillar, South Bay, Capt. Don's, Salt Pier and Andrea (but that is over a set of 5 different trips, and what is there today may not be there tomorrow).

I agree with Dr D, the best way is to have a DM guide you. Sea Horses tend to frequent an area and the DMs know where to look. We have done several hundred dives in Bonaire and have found our own Sea Horse about 5 times. With DMs we have seen a hundred plus.

I have seen them at Bari Reef and lots of other places. Always easier to have someone point them out to you, but more fun to find them on your own!

Hi Angela, and welcome to Bonaire Talk.

I would recommend visiting an aquarium that has sea horses in it and then going during feeding time. Once you see what the sea horses eat, you can look around the bases of soft corals that have those little shrimp swarming about. Sea horses don't actively seek their food, they let their food come to them. Find their food, then look for the sea horses.

Thanks for the tip, Mare. I'll try that in Bonaire this time.
