Does anyone else ever come back from a week long trip and have problems with fingernails and toe nails splitting/cracking and generally looking shabby until they grow out?

Just wondering if there is a preventative treatment.

Yes Alan there is help!!!! Clear nailpolish for you men unless you really like pink...:-) keep applying it everyday while you are diving.. this will help strenghten your nails and keep them from tearing..In fact there are nail strenghtening polishes out there that come in clear...And it is not unheard of for a man to have a manicure and a pedicure ....:-):-):-)
my husband even let me paint his toes with dive flags... Go for it!!!

Just having a manicure/pedicure helps but my beautician puts two top coats over my two coats of Bonaire purple nail polish on my toes. I only have clear varnish on my fingers. Chips look so common on fingers, Alan!(to be said in Snooty English Accent!) Seriously, a bit of after sun lotion rubbed into your nail beds will really help toe and finger nails but do it every day.

Ok, I suppose I can try nail polish. Just thought there would be some manly fix like bear grease, car wax, or something. Maybe I can order it on the internet and have it delivered in a brown wrapper. Just kidding.

So do I go to the dollar store, or buy something that works. I'll try to sneak through the next store and look into this dept.

Wasn't sure if nail polish actually made things better or worse during long soaking in water. So nail hardener sounds best. Does it work on anything other than nails? You know, I'll need some other rational manly reason to be having it.

Thanks for the advise.

Alan...say you are buying it for your glasses (do you wear glasses?). I have a screw loose, no jokes please, and so I don't have to tighten it every day, I use clear nail polish to hold it in place. And yes....I did bring them in and get a new screw and it came loose. The optical shop told me about the nail polish trick and happily it does work.

Alan, when there are other guys around, I use lacquer. I prefer http://www.minwax.com/products/protective/lacquer.cfm as you don't have to sand between coats.

p.s.: Don't use it on your nylons though, good ones are hard to replace on Bonaire.

LaDonna I got your e-mail, am moving my printer near the window:-)

Tribs, I am not saying anything ....... and it is hurting:-)

PAIN!!! YOU WANT PAIN? Put lacquer on a cut buddy, you will "enjoy" some pain.

OOOOPS!! I see now that I should have said

p.s.: Ladies, don't use it on your nylons though, good ones are hard to replace on Bonaire. From what I have been told.

Better Jerry? WHAT? DON'T LISTEN TO SMACK, HE LIES! I DON'T WEAR NYLONS. To quote the vacationing Grasshopper - "SNORT"!
