I am a 29yr old male, recently certified, and am considering a solo trip to Bonaire to dive. I'm concerned about going alone - finding dive buddies, etc. Do resorts or dive shops try to match single divers? Are certain resorts better than others to go solo to? I'm guessing the higher-end places cater more to the honeymooning types.

Dan - we stayed at the Plaza in May and I didn't feel it was honeymoonish, even though I went with my husband I didn't feel it was couples only. There were a lot of families and I saw some singles. I do not dive so my husband dove with Toucan Divers located at the Plaza and there was always someone to buddy up with. Also, if the divers are all paired off and someone is left alone the dive master always buddies up with them, at least that is the experience he has always had.

I often dived alone at Sand Dollar before my husband learned to dive and it was never a problem finding a buddy on the boats. The divemasters always ask if everyone has a buddy and if you don't you are paired with someone or you go with the divemaster. People are very friendly in bonaire (tho it takes them a day or so to lose their US reserve "dont talk to strangers") and you can chat with people and then often find a group or couple to dive with.
