two weeks ago i was told that diving is now prohibited at both salt and town pier for security reasons. is that true? when i was there last winter we could only dive both but only with a divemaster...now i've heard i can't even do that. town piers not a bad dive...just too crowded. i'd rather dive salt pier. hope i can. please tell me the rumors aren't true.

Salt Pier is definitely not prohibited but you do need permission. We dived at Salt Pier yesterday for the first ime and it was fantastic. Loads of big Tarpon circling overhead as we explored the piles and one glorious frogfish that I managed to get on camera

Pat,
The same rules that applied when you were here before apply now. You need a local Dive Master to accompany you on the dive and arrange for a permit with the harbor master. No problem. Susan

Mike,
The last dive trip I ruined my perfect record of always finding frog fish at salt pier. Any hint as to where you saw the frog fish would be appreciated. We will be on the island in two weeks. thanks

Just come back from our final dive as sadly we depart back to UK tomorrow. We had seen all the marine life we wanted with the exception of a ray so last dive was to Angel city. Spent all the dive time near the bottom of the reef looking at the sand between. Nothing at all ray shaped so we thought ok we miss that one. Came up slowly to the car over the sand and not a lot. My son Andrew signals to go up then quickly stop as a big spotted Eagle Ray came into view right on the shoreline and straight to us. a few nice pictures to sort later but last dive, last minutes and we saw one.
Yes trip reports plus comments on dining and diving with pictures all to come. As for finding a frogfish well all I can say is go with an experienced dive master because I stand no chance of seeing them. I have to have them pointed out to me closely

thanks for all the info. i'll pass it on to my guests and then i'll plan to dive it when we get there right after they leave. i did a night dive there last march and then we dove jeannies glory and saw two good size green morays and a 5' barracuda just north of the pier pilings. great dive.
