We just returned from our 5th trip. Can anyone find the reason why the vis has gone down so much in the past year or so? We used to enjoy 100+ foot vis and haven't seen it in over a year. We were there in 9/04, 4/05 and 7/1-7/16 vis has been no better than 50' on any dive. I hope it is not run-off from new construction or faulty sewage treatment. Any one know? This is not an indictment so don't get offended anyone, but if it is not just a coincidence than let's figure it out.

I live on Bonaire, I dive here frequently year round, and I think you encountered a coincidence. The vis is still often terrific.

Sounds like you might have landed on Bonaire after some nasty weather. Don't forget that Ivan arrived with heavy wind, waves and rain in early September '04 and this July has been very hurricane active. We left Bonaire just after Ivan and the visibility was very poor at that time. Just days before, it was gloriously clear.

David, I just got back Saturday, and experienced 80 -100 foot vis dives all this past week. I didn't dive after the harbor master shut down diving due to Emily late Thursday, but thought the vis was fine up until then.
