Has the visibility returned to normal after Hurricane Emily?

We were not hit by Hurricane Emily. We didn't even get a drop of rain the night it was supposed to cause a tropical storm here. The water got a bit rough, but diving continued.
There's no such thing as "normal" vis. It just varies.
Some days are better than others. Some sites on a given day are better than others. Depends on surge and rain and, well, you know, variables.
I noticed the vis improved while I was diving yesterday morning. Better later on during my first dive and better on my second dive than on the first, so maybe in that sense it has "returned to normal."
If you are on your way here, don't worry about the vis!
Tish

Thanks Tish. I read in another thread that Oil Slick Leap "was the only dive site that people were recommending because the rain and waves had really messed up the viz." So, I was just checking to see if it was better now. We have only been once before (2003), and the visibility was better some days than others, but always good. We will be down this Saturday, Air Jamaica willing, and we are looking forward to some great diving!

Good luck with Air Jamaica! For several months now they have cancelled a great many of their scheduled flights. I strongly advise repeated calls to them to keep asking if they are really going to fly you to Bonaire.
Those people who have made it to Bonaire on AJ in recent months have often arrived one or more days late.
People who have kept phoning to reconfirm have been successfully moved to other airlines if their flights were cancelled. Those who have simply shown up at the airport have sometimes had their trips cancelled. Would not want that to happen to you.
Good luck!
Tish

Thanks for the advice Tish. As a matter of fact, I was talking to Air Jamaica probably as you were writing. So far, everything is fine for Saturday. I'm hoping that given the cancelled flights due to Dennis and Emily, they'll be anxious to fly this weekend!

AJ has developed a pattern of cancelling many flights regardless of the weather, Edward.
In at least some of these cases they seem to have cancelled flights merely because they felt they did not have enough passengers to make flying profitable. In other cases maybe they have had mechanical problems. I have also heard that insufficient staff following all the layoffs has been the culprit
I used to fly AJ but I will try to avoid that airline in future. I live on Bonaire, so I hear a lot of complaints.
Tish

I've been following the Saturday flights out of Atlanta on Air Jamaica for a few months, and so far (except for the last two hurricane Saturdays), only one has missed the connection in Montego Bay, though several have arrived in Bonaire late. I think the flights out of Baltimore have had many more problems for some reason. In any case, I will continue to call Air Jamaica and check the status. You've been a lot of help on several subjects and I appreciate your input.
