Jeanine, first of all, it is impossible to be TOO excited to get to Bonaire! I'm very excited for you, you will have such a great time.

Oh, I should also add -- there is a new "deck" around where the ladder is, but I don't have a recent pic of that. I know someone does because I've seen it on BT recently. Maybe some sweet person will post it.

Oil Slick was one of our favorites. Great for both diving and just playing at. Here is a shot of the ladder area from the water

Yes, I love BT as well. Thank you everyone and if anyone else wants to share their pics, I would be more than happy to check them out. I just couldn't believe the description in the book...jump in off the cliff with gear on. My nephew is going to love this! (At 30 something, I will too!)

The "scary" factor is highly over rated. It's actually a pretty easy entry. My wife did it with only about ten dives under her belt and had no trouble. The ladder makes for a nice exit as long as you time your exit with the swells if there are any. After you do it just once you will be saying "geez, that was easy lets go again!" or words to that effect.

This is one of our favorite sites, both above and under water. I have had divers with me do the jump several times just for fun. It's a don't miss site in my book.

Ahh, one of my favorite dive spots and it is so nice since they put the platform and ladder in too! I, too, have jumped when feeling adventurous and I am 40 something!

On the idea of "If I can do it, so can you" I do Oil Slick Leap every trip. I always jump off the rocks to the right of the ladder....and I'm 59.

Has someone found the yellow seahorse here lately? It has been there for ages but in June I was at OSL twice but couldn't find him/her anymore.....

That was my favorite dive on my vacation last week. It was when the hurricanes were starting, and it was the only dive site that people were recommending because the rain and waves had really messed up the viz. It was beautiful under there even though the other dive sites pretty much stunk. The waves were huge that day, and I was the only women there who would jump into the water. I was so freaked out, but then once I did it I was so proud, and it was really quite easy. At the end of the dive, I sat at 15 feet (by the ladder) and took off my fins, and then handed them up, and then came up the ladder. I had to sit at 15 feet for a while and wait until the waves brought me to the ladder. Oh, how I miss Bonaire!

What about snorkeling this site?

Hi Toos! The Bonaire Shore Diving Made Easy book says that Oil Slick Leap is an "excellent snorkeling site."

We saw the most phenomenal deep purple anemone a few hundred yards north of the entrance here last October. Probably the most intensely colored thing we saw all trip.
