Our second trip kicks off this Friday (7th). Last dives on Bonaire we saw no turtles, nor any Spotted Eagle Rays. I am keeping my fingers crossed for this time! I've only seen a spotted ray once and it was an awesome sight, so wish us luck...and away we go! I mentioned those two species, because believe me, we saw everything else one could want.

Female turtles are laying their nests now on Klein Bonaire and at the southern dive sites.
You have a good chance of seeing spotted eagle rays at the southern sites. Usually one turns up feeding in the shallows at Invisibles, although yesterday that ray was not at home, but eagle rays frequent the southwest coast.
Of course, if you dive with Larry on the east coast, you will see formations of eagle rays.
Enjoy your trip!

Check with Mabel at Sea Turtle Conservation tel 7172225 or 7900433 to see if you can join a morning when they are tagging turtles or to see a nest hatch.

Susan, Good thing you said something, I'm sitting here in Vegas thinking I fly out on Thursday evening and get into Bonaire on Friday! I read your reply and said something to my girl. She said "yeah, you Loggerhead, we leave Wednesday and get into Bonaire Thursday evening! I'd better tell my boss!
We are diving w/Larry, so I hope the Eagle Rays do show up!
The turtle idea sounds great too. Will they let us help tag, or just watch. Either way that would be fun!
Wow, I'm splittin one day earlier than I had thought!!!!!! Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh. Vegas to Curacoa, CUR to Bonaire on Divi. See ya soon.

We were SOOO lucky on our last trip. No turtles, but 2 eagle rays approached us at Pink Beach. They got within 12 feet or so, then decided we were worthy of a show. They did some acrobatics, playing together, then took off after awhile. Truly a humbling sight-we were both so in awe of their performance!

What we have seen the past few weeks,

Turtles, a few frog fish, eagle ray who put on a show, barracudas, tarpons, sea horses... great time for all. If you dive with Larry you will DEFINITELY see turtles!

Enjoy!

Liz

Rich,
Be sure to reconfirm your reservations. A lot of people are telling me that the flights they were booked on did not fly. Be careful!
