Hello,
I have a photography question. I just got the Sea and Sea DX3000G underwater camera. We also got the arm and strobe for it. My question is: Is a macro or the 20 mm wide angle conversion lens necessary for taking pictures while diving in Bonaire? This will be my first time using digital underwater. We just want to make sure and purchase them or one of them before our trip so we don't miss any good photographs. Thanks for your help.

Bonaire is especially known for its chances to photograph the small critters: seahorses, frogfish, and such. But we also are seeing lots of turtles and eagle rays right now, and sometimes we see sharks, sting rays, even mantas. We also have varied reefs and vistas. You just never know what you will encounter. The trick is to be using the right lens on each dive, huh?
Don't rush out and buy more lenses. You will have ample opportunities to use what you have now.
Tish

Get the macro lens for Bonaire. It's a wet mount lens so you can remove and take it off doing the dive. Make sure it's on a lanyard so it does not get lost.

Keely

I would get the wide angle lens as well for the Hooker and piers. Have a great trip and please share the pictures.

Thanks so much for the advice. I will definitely try and post my pictures (if they are relatively decent!)

As this is your first time I would not bother with either lens. From what I could tell from the S&S website, the camera is capable of focusing down to 1/2 inch which is plenty close enough for macro shots. I would get some experience with the camera, see what it's capabilities are as is and then decide on aux lenses.

My wife has the macro lens for her MX10 film camera.(This also fits the 3000G.) We used the macro set for only two dives in Bonaire. Got some pretty good pix of upside-down jellyfish in the mangroves. You're far more likely to need macro in Bonaire than WA, but if your standard lens can focus to less than 12 inches, you shouldn't even need that.

We don't have the WA, but in shooting 20 rolls, I can't say any would have been improved with a WA, and we did get some nice panoramic shots of coral heads, etc. It might be useful for large wrecks.
