Does anyone know the name/brand of the slate Jerry Ligon at Sand Dollar uses on his 'Dive with a Naturalist' tour? As I recall, it was a child's toy similar to an Etch-o-Sketch with a stylus and a lever to erase things. I spotted something similar in a toy store near Chicago last week and wanted to be sure it's the same thing. They're not intended for U/W use, but Jerry's seemed to be weathering the elements fine.

Ron,
I have sent Jerry your question. Hopefully, either he will post his answer or, if he replies to me, I will post it.
Tish

Magna Doodle is I think what you mean Ron, an UW etch-a -sketch would be pretty darn slow.
I found this site which has a couple of different kinds by googling dive slate.

Ron - I just sent 10 of those to Susan Porter - it is a child's toy and you can get them at Target or any toy store for under $10. I just wish I could remember the name - must go back to Target to find out what they are called:-):-)
Susan loves them and they do hold up well.

Seb - it is a take off on the Magna Doodle line - but I do not think it is made by them any more.

I think this is what you're looking for. It's the Quest slate w/ holster for $24.95

I've used a small Magna Doodle when diving. Works well regardless of depth. Cost on the internet starts at $6 each. Google for "clip-on Magna Doodle" to find one. Made by Fisher-Price. The plastic clip is a bit flimsy, so I replaced it with a loop of elastic cord that goes around your wrist.

I bought mine at Target a year or two ago. It was only 2 or 3 dollars. Low resolution slate but works OK and hasn't crapped out in salt water yet. The plastic clip is a joke for diving. I cut it off and put a small stainless carabiner on with a cable tie. Hard to write with using gloves, but I guess that isn't an issue in Bonaire

William - thanks for naming who makes them - I thought it was Fisher Price. Great thing to have not expensive. And you can get them in a variety of colors too!!!:-):-):-)

Thanks, everyone. It is the Magna Doodle. I rode my bicycle to Walgreen's this morning and picked it up for $11.99US but I don't doubt they're available for less. This is the "travel size" and it has a rather sturdy loop handle that can attach to a retractor or BC. It's by Ohio Art, the Etch-o-sketch people. Saw them online for $8-14.95US and larger ones in various colors. Now all I need is a vacation to use it.
