Hi all,
I have a Scubatech uwatec aladin air integrated, hoseless dive computer. Just today, as I was getting ready to make a dive, it displayed "Err" It's several hours later and the display is still there. Won't go into any of its modes or operate. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, was there any alternative to sending the unit to the company?
Any help will be appreciated.
thanks.

Is it an older unit Dennis? Did you try their website? Was the battery perilously low? Is it under warranty? Which model is it? Did you buy it at your LDS?

Thanks for that, Seb.
Bought in 2003. Model is 2 nitrox.
Battery was at 91% when I checked it yesterday.
Of course my biggest problem is getting it to the repair facility, whereever that is, think it's San Diego. Don't know what LDS is, local dive shop? If so, yes, but that was when we lived in US, now live in Bonaire. I have contacted them, maybe that will work out.
Just wondered if there was some magic solution.

It has to go back to Scubapro/Uwatec. It is in Error mode and can only be fixed by them.

We have had really good sevice from Uwatec in the past. When we sent our last v. old Aladdins back for servicing they offered us a very cheap upgrade instead. We paid about the same price for two new computers as the service!

Dennis, FedEx it, Rocargo are great! It was about $40 for me to get a new transmitter shipped from NYC from my Local Dive Shop, and they got them to not charge me duty on it. Or start a thread asking for someone to bring it back to the states and mail it for you. Or stop by Gibis on a Tuesday night and see if someone will help you out. Then you'd have to find someone else to bring it down from the lists I suppose.
Or check ebay, it sounds like you need a backup anyway.

Thanks everyone, Looks like it goes back to factory for repair. Next problem: getting it there and back from Bonaire in a timely manner.

Julia, Scubapro told me on the telephone that they had never replaced the battery on any of the older units, they just offered the upgrade or replaced them.

You may be right Julia.

"Aww, just start selling them, we'll have plenty of time to figure out changing the battery later"

And they did, the gentleman I spoke with on the phone said all their units are now user changeable batteries.

Dennis,

I suspect Walt III knows how this is done and he is on Bonaire. Why not stop by and talk to him???

Dennis, can you remove the battery? If so this may reset the computer.. This may also void any warranty you might have left on the unit.

The older Uwatec's required a soldered connection for the batteries and a special service tool to open the compartment. (easy to make!) One variant offered through Parkway even required a special packing material (a two part gel) that sealed-up the battery compartment. The two-part gel would degrade over time, so even if your LDS had some sitting on the shelf it may not work.

I haven't dealt with any since ScubaPro picked them up.

You've already received the best information... call ScubaPro and get an RA# (return authorization) and send the unit off.

Thanks to everyone. My computer is winging its way to Scubapro in El Cajon, California for warranty repair. Talked with them, only repairable at factory.
