Hi there, i'm looking for somewhere to do my Divemaster as an internship i.e. 6-8 weeks of DM / guiding. Does anyone know anywhere on Bonaire that does this?

Many thanks,

Jonty.

Hi, Jonty!
Welcome to BT!
I have known of instances when Divi Dive Bonaire at the Divi Flamingo Hotel has done this.
You can find their web site with a web search.
They're an excellent dive operation and keep five boats busy most of the year. The staff are friendly, so you would enjoy your time here. And of course the diving is extraordinary and quite varied.

Hi Tish, thankyou! I will have a look at that. I am currently finishing of my masters in sunny England but will be finished in late August, and was wanting to come out then... I presume the diving is good at that time of year?

The diving here is spectacular any time, Jonty, but the sea tends to be especially calm in September and October.
In what field are you earning a masters?
You'll meet plenty of Brits here, both residents and tourists, although you don't say you're British. I have relatives across the pond in not-so-sunny England. It's Bonaire that's cornered the market on sunshine! :-)
Do you happen to speak Dutch? Or any language other than English? That would be helpful in hooking up with an internship here, so you should mention that when you apply.

Hi Tish, no sorry...no Dutch spoken here :-) I am British and am doing my Masters in Sustainable Development (did my BSc in Environmental Science).

Thanks for all your help. Will have a long think about it and look around at all the dive centres...

Jonty, your degrees should provide an excellent background for Bonaire. Be sure to mention them in your application.

Once you are here, you will find much of interest on the island in our many programs in your areas of expertise.
Tish

Tish,
You could contact Yellow Submarine for a dive masters internship at dive@bonaireyellowsubmarine.com

It's Jonty who is looking for one, and yes, that's another possible spot. Thanks!

Yeah they all look good...I think my only problem with Bonaire is that the accommadation seems to be so expensive. I would really like to be living somewhere next to the dive shop so that I don't have to worry about getting transport everywhere. No where seems to do that. I am looking at one in Roatan:

And other than that, Western Australia (Exmouth, Ningaloo)...

Can't quite decide which looks the best :-)
Decisions, decisions...

I've been diving in Roatan, Jonty, and I enjoyed it, but it cannot compare to Bonaire.
If you are really interested, you should get in touch with some dive shops here and find out what they suggest about lodging. There are rooms for rent here and inexpensive apartments. The Divi Flamingo is a few steps out of town, and that area has reasonable prices for places to stay. Don't put the cart before the horse. Check out the opportunities here first, and see what the dive shops can help you arrange by way of affordable lodging.

Hmmm I will have a look around...it's just sometimes nice to have the whole thing in one package. Then you know that everything is close together. I will see what Yellow Submarine say as they offer a DM internship. Perhaps that have a special rate for accommadation nearby.

Jonty,

Please contact Chris @ Wannadive in the City shop. He'll be able to talk you through various options (2 locations) and maybe even set you up with accomodation in our own hotel/appartments. Have a look @ www.wannadivebonaire.com

Ben
