Hi, I will be in Bonaire for the 1st time in May. I would like to pick up a book to learn more about diving there. I've come across one book recommended here. "Bonaire Shore Diving Made Easy" by Jessie Armacost. I'd like some thoughts on this and any other books. Thankx.

Excellent book. Very helpful...and fun to re read after the trip.

Jessie's book is great for divers and snorkelers, as well. I recommend you're picking it up and reading it before you suit up! You will never regret going to Bonaire.

Welcome to BT! We hope to see you on our board. Feel free to ask any and all questions...someone always has a response for anything you can think of. Ayo. Carole

Not a book, but a really good web site. This will give you a visual of the dive sites and others ratings of those sites. You might enjoy all of them, this gives you a chance to dive those that are best suited to your skills.

I would like to know where to pick up the "Bonaire Shore Diving Made Easy" book. Amazon.com doesn't have it and the only other book I've found is from like 1991! I'd like something more recent.

Hi John and Rich: most dive shops on Bonaire will have "Bonaire Shore Diving Made Easy", so you can pick it up on island; however, if you want it ahead of your dive trip, or just want to drool over things you've missed, go to Purchase the best and most inexpensive Bonaire Diving Guide on the left hand side of the page, half way down.

I also like Dream Wrecks: the Best Shipwrecks of Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao by Dominique Serafini and Catherine Salisbury.

You can pick it up almost anywhere on Bonaire, or you can order it online following a link on the home page of the Bonaire Reporter www.bonairenews.com The link is in the yellow area on the left side of the page; cost is 12 bucks plus shipping for latest edition (third edition 2003-2004). No pictures, no glossy, fancy layouts, but an absolutely mandatory reference for shore diving on Bonaire. Highly recommended.

LOL, Scott, Almost a double post.
Rich, as a small, independent non-American press owner, I find that Googling a title or author is the best way to find an independent author or publisher like Jessie Armacost.

Amazon.com is not the instant access it seems to be for small press publications for various reasons. For example if you click on Infobonaire.com
you'll see Amazon.com and Jessie's book, yet you couldn't find it on Amazon....

The purchase link for the Armacost book doesn't seem to exist on the Bonaire Reporter website anymore. There's a link for the best Bonaire Children's Book (The Bonaire Donkey's First Adventure), but no "Bonaire Shore Diving Made Easy"

Google searches for this title only give links back to the bonairetalk website and a scubaboard mention of the book. Does anyone have any other suggestions for how to get my hands on this thing before we actually get to Bonaire?
