My buddy and I will be making our first trip in September. Plan on staying at the Golden Reef Inn.
I thought I read a previous post about a couple of wrecks just off the beach of a resort. Where would I find a list, if any thing exists?

Thank you

Welcome, Charles.... hailing from Smyrna, Georgia, home of Julia Roberts if I have my trivia right!??

I'm not sure about the wrecks, other than the Hilma Hooker, which is a great dive and highly recommended; and the one off the beach at Eden Beach, can't remember the name of it. It's smaller and not as much to look at as with the Hooker. I'm sure others will chime in with other noteworthy wrecks.

You'll like the Golden Reef, Liz and Ed are great people, and I'm sure they'll be terrific hosts !

Enjoy your trip ~~ we all look forward to a trip report when you return!

Hi Charles, try a keyword search (at the bottom of the pages) for wrecks.
Here's one from the archives Wreck Identification and Pictures

The wreck #4 in the Wreck Identification thread is the one you can see every day at the present location of the
Reefcam
so close it hurts (as PBD settles in for the umpteenth time)

Thank you Kelly and Fiona for the info. Kelly, I believe that is true about Julia. I'm what they call a carpetbagger, being from Cleveland originally, so my Southern trivia is a bit weak :D

There is also the wreck of the Machacha (sp?) in front of Captain Don's. While the wreck of the Windjammer is beyond recreational scuba limits (200+ feet), there have been some interesting articles and letters on diving it in the last two issues of the Bonaire reporter and I thought I'd also mention that here.

Photo Tours does a Windjammer dive for $89 the last time I looked on their web site. Don't know the details except you get a T-shirt along with the dive.

Bonaire is not really a wreck diving location. That said, I have found the following to be nice:
a) An older tug (I think), south of Eden Beach;
b) Hilma Hooker (south of town);
c) Windjammer (north of town and beyond the ability of many/most Bonaire divers).

There are scads of smaller ships -- a small boat directly off Eden, one of Dons, one of Divi and a few more on the east side...

The wreck just south of Eden Beach is I believe an old trawler, Our Confidence, which sank just over a year ago.

There is a thread somewhere else giving more details.

trawler

Thanks for the Our Confidence photo, Dave.

The name of the reefcam wreck is Baka de Laman or Sea Cow.
