We will spend our holidays in Bonaire in August, our son ( 8 years old at that time and a good swimmer) would like to make his bubblemaker. Are there any dive operators in Bonaire who offer dive instructions for kids and what kind of equipment do we need, are there any dive operators who also have equipment for kids?

Cheers, Petra

Try dropping Buddy Dive an email. I know they have some children's Sassy (seems like that's what it is called- a BC with floatation in it and a pony bottle on the back) gear. I would assume they do instruction. I would think other shops do as well.

Bonaire Dive and Adventure also has Kids Programs including the SASY set-ups.

You may also want to look into the programs that Caren Eckrich runs at Sea & Discover. She, to the best of my knowledge will not teach them scuba or bubblemaker but is wonderful with the kids and will take them snorkeling and will do activities in her classroom which happens to be at her house. She will pick the kids up from your hotel and return in the afternoon. Although my son was 12 at the time, he totally enjoyed the time spent with Caren.

Thank you all for that information. I had a look at the webpages and I think my son will love to take part in one of these programms.

Are these SASY vests inflatable or are they more like a boat lifejacket with a sleeve for the air tank? Is it just a standard regulator that is used or some special type? Since I have a newborn (6 weeks old) I'll definitely be in the market for something of this sort in the next few years. Also can anyone point me to a source for this equipment? I did a quick search of a few online scuba outlets and was unable to find anything.

Thanks
Eric

Not sure where you could buy one but the ones I have seen have some sort of solid (foam?) floatation in them. It did not have any sort of air bladder or any obvious way of varying buoyancy. The ones I saw had a sleeve on the back to house a 13cf pony tank that used a standard reg, minus the LP inflator hose and octo.
