Hi. I'm staying at the Plaza the first week in November, and I was wondering what kind of conditions to expect when boat diving. I'm prone to sea sickness and plan on doing a lot of beach diving, but I don't want to miss out on the boat dives as well. I didn't have any problems boat diving in Cozumel, and was wondering if the conditions are comparable.

The water is rougher in Cozumel that Bonaire as long as you dive on the lee side of Bonaire. You will love boat diving in Bonaire.

Jeanne,

First of all, welcome to Bonaire Talk.

Ditto to John's post. Be advised that, at times diving Klein Bonaire might include a boat ride through a bit of "chop".

Enjoy your trip!!!

Jeanne, welcome to Bonaire Talk! You will fall in love with Bonaire, guaranteed.. :-)

I get seasick, airsick, carsick... you name it. I got my doctor to give me the motion sickness patches, and they are the best thing since sliced bread.. might want to check it out! Just put one behind your ear and replace it every three days. They are awesome!

When I used to regularly go on the left coast dive boats out to the channel islands, they used to call me "Raaalph". Or say "There she goes again looking for her Buuuiiick". I have never gotten queasy on a Bonaire boat trip, even when I went to a pre-Lenny trip to Boca Slaagbai. Diving the windward side with Wild Side Larry or Bas might be a problem for you though. It does get quite choppy.

Enjoy the boat dives! The dive sites "up north" (Karpata, etc.) can be a little rough, especially in the afternoon. I'm a snorkeler, thus stay up on top, and can really feel the current, waves, etc. At those sites, I'd rather be IN the water than ON the water in a boat. That said...I never miss an opportunity to go to Karpata...it's one of my favorites!

I often get queezy. Although never in Bonaire (after 2 trips and 40 dives). The boat dives are approx 5 - 10 mins. The Klien is calm. The north coast is rough, just be sure your dive master is strict with the divers to return at a specific dive time.
