I have a small roller suit-case that my BC barely fits inside. We will be flying Air Jamaica, and I was wondering if the Air Jamaica over-head storage is big enough for this. I have heard stories about checked luggage getting to Bonaire days late.

I think that AJ is all Airbus 320's and they got plenty of overhead space. I carried on a small roll-on with cameras and housing and regs and stuff in January and had not problems. Given that, I've made two trips on AJ from Miami to Bonaire and have had no luggage delay problems

I'd concur that my two AJ flights from Chicago to Bonaire went off without a hitch and all my checked luggage arrived just fine and dandy. In my carry-on I put the dive things that I cannot/prefer not to rent if the big bag gets delayed. My digital camera, UW housing and charger, my regs and dive computer, my prescription dive mask etc.; hotel reservations copy, a photocopy of all my important documents like passport, driver's license, insurance cards, credit cards, diver certifications and the like. The rest goes in one of my checked bags. Usually all the remaining dive gear goes in one large plain wheeled case, clothes go in the other.

regarding the batteries for the dive lights...what i've done is take at least one of the batteries in each light and put it in backwards. keeps the light from turning on and burning stuff. it's worked well so far. also, on your return trip, take all used batteries with you and discard them at home.

Carried my BC, mask, fins, shortie wetsuit and regulator in a carry on rolling bag. Brought the small inexpensive fins, because they fit in the roll along bag. What do you need large fins for when you are just recreational diving in the tropics? Travel light and you can fit your dive gear in a roll along with out a problem. Had no problem with stowage on 737 and 757 planes operated by American. The ATR from PR to BON operated by American Eagle put the bag in a cargo area along with many others. No problems using a roll along carry on bag.

I once wore my BC to get on the plane. It had to go on the xray belt - the operators were quite amused. I then wrapped it inside my jacket & put it in the overhead. This saves lots of packing space and they really can't say anything to you if you treat it like a jacket.

Susan, I love it. You is my kind of girl. I'd love to see pictures of that one.

I was worried about my luggage not showing up in Bonaire, so I carried on my regulator, mask and dive light (cannister light). I figured mask and regulator were the two things I would not want to rent, and my dive light looks so much like a pipe bomb that I wanted to be present when my bags were X-rayed with the light in it, so I could explain what it really was.
