We're staying at Lions Dive, and I understand Bon Bini and Buddy Dive are both right there. Any reason to pick one over the other? Is there another operation nearby worth making the extra trip for? In reading thru the various postings on this site, I've rarely seen a negative comment about any operator, so I'm under the impression that it's hard to go wrong anywhere.

Also - do I need a wetsuit in Dec?

Water temp in the lo 80's; many divers use only a skin, polartec, or skin with vest depending on individual's ability to deal with heat loss.

Have dived with Lion's Dive for over 10 years. These folks are great and very accomodating. Have been on dives where my wife and I were the only ones on the boat and received all the help we needed.

Don't know whether "..it's hard to go wrong anywhere.." but I believe that both Lion's Dive and Buddy's are well run and safe operations.

My experience with BonBini this summer was first class. Finished my OW, and took boat dives with them -- great all around. No experience with Buddy

Thanks guys. Sounds like the easiest is also the best solution - how often does that happen?? Appreciate the advice.

Nothing at all against Buddy's; I'm sure they're fine. But having completed my OW with Mananita who works for Bon Bini was a truly wonderful experience. The crew is great and friendly, and very accomodating. I was so glad I did my checkout dives with them.

Arthur,

I'll be there in Dec (1-12) and I ALWAYS wear a westsuit (5/4/3mm jumpsuit)...water temps should be around 80 or so. Depending on the number and the length of dives you do per day you'll find that MORE is always better.

Hi Arthur,

I have dove with Buddy the last 2 years and like the shop a lot, having said that, I have only heard good things about BonBini as well so either should do nicely. Both are nice, well equiped shops. The 2 shops are side by side with a small, unlocked gate between them.

As for a wetsuit, we found that a polar tech helped a lot even in July. The water temp is not bad but after several dives the heat loss starts to catch up with you. We have even started using diving caps, they help retain a lot of heat as well. After 4 dives and a night dive, you can really tell the difference.

Herman

I vote Bon Bini. We stayed at Lion's Dive Nov 24 thru Dec 1. Smaller groups and more personal service in my opinion (we are diving rookies). Try both if you like.
I like a lycra skin and shorty suit combo, and was never cold.
