Hi all,

Finally got around to documenting part of a another dive from a couple of weeks ago.

I also experimented with creating a .gif animation of a christmas tree worm disappearing - let me know what you think:

Nice stuff Jake, I really like the Grunt with his mouth open. The animation is nice too.

The water clarity is spectacular. Are you using any kind of filter or manually adjusting your color during scanning?

Very impressive.

Color & brightness/contrast adjustments are all done in Photoshop, and the images are also sharpened and scaled down in Photoshop.

The image source consists of 640x480 sized images taken from digital video on my Sony PC-100, taken in natural light with a magenta color correcting filter to ensure that some of the blue is taken out of the scene before capture.

Thanks Jake. You’re always so considerate of all of us taking time to answer questions and putting up with our silly jokes. You help make BT lots of fun.

Thanks

You creep Snork! Bet you used to run to get the desk nearest the front in class, eh?
Well read & weep, because I'm going to score more Brownie points than you can dream of, next Monday...I'm going to give HIM a bottle of Single Malt Scotch!
Needless to say Jake...I thought it was wonderful too. Nearly there with the animated gif. Where the hell do you find the time?

Great stuff, Jake! Loved the animation, too....feels like you're actually in the water experiencing the beauty of it all. Thanks! Carole

Jake...very nice shots...we have just purchased a slide projector...(ahhh the 60's) this is a very hard item almost archaic to buy since no one wants to be bored with "our trip to anywhere on earth" pictures being shown slide by slide....Steve loves the gadgets..and the remote control clicker....(man item) So if you are ever visiting here in the wonderful world of Joisy....leave after the dip and refreshments to spare yourself the grueling one fish two fish red fish blue fish slide shows...It does keep him busy...and this IS a good thing.....But I think audiences will be hard to find.....

Andy,

No brown on my nose. Is that brownie points on yours? (heh heh heh). Just kidding. Quite the opposite actually. I used to be the kid in the back of the room causing trouble. No actually I usually wasn't even in the room!

I do envy the fact that your actually going to Bonaire and can drop a bottle of Single Malt off to Jake. I've also seen your pictures and your no slouch either. My shots are not even in the same league and I'm just trying to learn how to improve them. As most things in life I found you can learn more from those who "do" than from those who write (I.E. the important stuff is never in the book, only the basics).

If you REALLY want to get my goat, present Jake his bottle live on the Web Cam! (I'm sick just thinking about it). On second thought wear those pants too, I wont feel quite as bad.

Scott (Snorkelguy)

Great Shots, I was in Bonaire for two weeks early October, and decided to take a fish ID class with Kitty at the Carib Inn. Your pictures sure bring back a lot of memories. Thanks!

Great shots Jake - the more I see digital u/w pictures the more I want to seriously consider a new set up. Now if I could just win a small lottery.

I think you're getting your Jakes and Jacks confused. Jack Chalk of Habitat is the man expecting the Scotch.

Pipe down Walt, you're not forgotten!
Linda, I "promised" Jake a bottle a few weeks ago, when you were convalescing. (hmm, that doesn't look right?) But you're correct...they all seem to be expecting some! Ah well, I guess that there might be enough to go around.
Looking forward to meeting you in a day or two.

Interesting timing Ken - with the reminder, that is - we had a little bit of lobster meat left over at the time, so we froze it - this past week we made lobster salad from it, and by coincidence I finished off in a sandwich earlier today. Yummm! is right! Thanks again!

Jake

The Xmas Tree worm was awesome. Just makes me want to go to Bonaire even worse. Two questions for you....Considering a Sony Digital DSC P5 since they make a reasonably cheap housing. Any thoughts. Second question.....gonna have to steal the time (call it unpaid vacation) to go to Bon. Recommendations for best time of year....OW advanced diver (me) birdwatcher (wife). Is there a best time of the year to satisfy both hobbies.

thanks

Joe, I can answer the question about the Sony P5, it's the best. Biased opinion, Ellen, Darlene and myself all have one, two out of three have taken exceptional pictures underwater with the camera. If you search the archives you can find them.
