Can anyone provide an update on the dock and facilities at Sand Dollar Dive? We'll be back in February 2002 and are curious about the work done since last February.

Jim we were there in May and are going in 2 weeks so we will give you an update when we get back. As of May/june...the dock was still not in...Andre seems to be running into more trouble than anyone else on the island! The rubble that was once the dive facility and restaurant area has been cleaned up and a new concrete slab put in....a new restaurant was put up by the pool area....nice..but the parrot it is not...As far as the dive operation goes...Andre and staff are still there and holding steady...Everything is business as usual and diving with them is as good as ever....they bring you back and forth to the harbor...a stones throw....but once the dock is in...it should be back to being one of the best on the island....

Jim & Ceil,
I again make my plea: I'm compiling a list of "on-Island" visit for Feb & March to see if get-togethers can be planned; so what dates are you going to be there. We are to be there 23 Feb - 9 March, staying at Sand$ (in the Alan & Joan Zale condo).
Chet

Did you find my name for the list Chet ? It will be two couples from cold New England Feb 6 to March 7...also curious about the new dock @ Sand Dollar..even though we don't stay @ Sand Dollar we do get our daily ration of tanks there and enjoy the staffs friendliness..new dock anxiously awaited since last year..must be hard for Andre to continue without it..extra work for the boat pick-ups etc..but sure is easier for tank pick-up..Bari Reef always a nice dive..lotsa fish

I hadn't responded yet, but I believe we'll all be here around that time, although I may be up at the Boston Sea Rovers Dive Show/Clinic talking about the WebCams (in particular the ReefCam) and Bonaire - that means I'll be gone from approx. Feb. 28th to March 4th.

If folks can help with organization and clean-up, we can do the potluck BBQ at our house (WebCam Central). How's that sound?

Jake

Jake,
Great! I'm sure we can get volunteers; the hardest part will be selecting a date to include the most people. Later this month, I'll start E-mailing the list with "on-Island" dates so people can start thinking about get-together dates.
And, since this is in a 'Sand$' discussion; I want to make a public thanks to the Zale's (Alan & Joan) for the special "Vacation messed up by ALM" rate on their condo for the extra night we get because we needed to reschedule our flights.
P.S.: When Jean went to actually exchange the tickets for the all "AA" (vs. "AA" & "ALM"), there was no additional charges.
Regards,
Chet....111 days, and counting....

Jim and Ceil, we were at the Sand$ in September, and it was great. As Meryl said, the dock isn't in, but it wasn't a problem for us at all. We did two boat dives, one to the hooker and one to Klein, and the van ride to the harbor was litteraly a minute at the most I think. Andre's staff was wonderful, and very accomodating. The Tuesday night happy hour at the shop was also a nice bonus (still don't know what the green punch was, but it was good). As I have said before, dock, no dock, ain't no big whoop to me...
