Two weeks to go 'til Bonaire! This is our second trip. We are snorkelers only-----any other great spots besides all the ones we found? I'd love to know your favorites....ours was Karpata. Anyone want to share their great ones?

Last time (summer 2000) we tried Margate, almost at the southern tip of the Island, and found that very atractive. We even saw an eagle ray, and there was a great variety and abundance of soft corals and lots of fish. The entry is not "user friendly", but is passable (unless the surf is too strong).

I would be intereted to know if any operators are taking snorkelers to South Klein Bonaire. We were never able to go there, and would be interested to know if it is feasible.

Windsock & 1000 steps we're both great. The mangrove snorkel (through Buddy Dive) was really different and interesting.

Antonio, there is a water taxi that takes snorkler from downtown. They will take you to Klein, you can walk the island and snorkle where you want. They have scheduled return runs so you will know when to meet the boat to return to Bonaire.

Hi
We are just back from two weeks at Divi. Their boats will take you to Klein. At Forest on the south west corner of Klein we saw a Manta ray while snorkeling in about 20 ft of water. We went a couple of times with them and the snorkeling was good on all four stops.
From shore we found Tori,s reef very good and also Andria I & II.
The new dive guide book was a great help finding these places.
Mickey

Thank you Kelley and Mickey for your suggestions. I have been several times on the Water Taxi (Baka di Laman), but it took me to North Klein Bonaire. Is the South coast within reach, walkwise?
Windsock used to be fabulous before Lenny's waves; last time I was disappointed, as well as with Pink Beach
Susan Graham, I don´t know if you have done that, but a guided snorkel trip with Jerry Ligon (Sand Dollar) is extremely informative; you learn an amazing amount of interesting facts about marine life.
Another favorite is a sail-and-snorkel trip with Renee, in the Woodwind. It will be a must in my next trip to Bonaire.

The water taxi will also drop you off for a drift snorkel to Klein. Some of the dive boats will take snorkelers along too. Some of the spots, like nearest point, are deep but water is so clear snorkelers enjoy it too.

Don't forget the option of doing an early morning snorkel in the mangroves off of Sorobon in Lac Bai - best place to see 5 inch barracudas and juveniles of dozens of other species!

We didn't get to that many spots, but there were two very memorable snorkels. One was our night snorkel with Renee of the Woodwind.. we snorkeled off Divi piers. The other was the mangroves at Lac Bay. It is so entirely different from the ocean. We didn't use a guide, but it was fantastic. I'll do both those snorkels again the next time for sure.

I agree, the mangroves are fabulous. Besides the fish, you also see "upside-down jellyfish", in theory non-stinging but ... next time I will wear a full body lycra suit!
