I will be going to Bonaire on Jan. 26, 2004.
Staying at the Belmar.
I like diving from small boats with no more the 4 to 6 divers. Any small dive operators on the island?
Thanks
Tom Pullin

I would also like to dive the East Side. By Boat if any goes to the east side.

Tom,

I know Bart and Co. from Wannadive go to the east side of the island when conditions are good. I am not sure of the boat size though.

The boats at Bonaire Dive and Adventure, located at Sand Dollar Resort, are fairly small. When we were there in September, we had only six of us on the boat.

Tom
Just to be clear, you'll want to dive with Toucan. They have a small shop at the Belmar. Their boats will pick you up at the Belmar dock and you can get your tanks for shore dives there also. Using another dive op will really be inconvenient.

I do agree with the others, shore diving is really all that's necessary on Bonaire. You will save five or six steps to the water though if you boat dive! Also, diving the east side probably won't be an issue. It's a pretty rare day that it's calm enough to dive.

Have fun.

Several months ago I heard that Bas was going to possibly start up a dive boat operation with small raft like boats. Two to four divers only.

Larry of Larry's Wildside Diving has a Grady-White and runs private trips, 7 divers max.Went with just my wife and daughter last New Years.
I agree you can do most of your diving from shore. The problem with Toucan is that dive site is chosen by consensus among the divers. Fine if you are in the majority. Dive from shore, do one day with Larry. He'll take you where you want to go or recommend sites based on your interest, will take you to the East side if weather and your experience permit. We also stay at Belmar.
If there is any surge, they make you drive to Plaza for the boats - 50/50 in our experience.

David
