Can anyone tell me the name of a good book about fish around Bonaire, that has lots of pictures? I have looked in my local bookstores and can't find any. Thanks.

I like the "new Guide to the Bonaire Marine Park - a guide for divers and snorkelers" by Tom van't Hof, Msc. Copyright is 1997. It is published by Harbour Village Beach Resort Bonaire, Netherland Antilles, ISBN 99904-0-192-6 Amazon.com lists it as out of print.

Alternative books available through Amazon.com are:

Diving and Snorkeling Guide to Bonaire
by Jerry Schnabel, Susan L. Swygert (Contributor)

Diving Bonaire
by George S. Lewbel, Larry R. Martin (Contributor)

Both are available through Amazon. I don't know which would have more pictures. Some of the dive shops may actually carry one or the other. Good Luck,

We have a very good local 'coffee table' book called "Watercolours Bonaire" with underwater photographs by local pros. It's available just about everywhere on island.

For fish identification, your best bet is "Reef Fish Identication Florida Caribbean Bahamas" by Paul Humann. REEF and many other organizations use this book as a standard reference. It has photos and diagrams to make it easier. It is also part of a series including Reef Creature and Reef Coral.

I'll add a vote for Paul Humann's book. It is the best fish ID book out there. To practice you might also have fun at fishid.com. They have quizzes that sharpen your fish ID skills and most of the fish are ones seen in Bonaire's waters.

Thanks for all the help. I checked at Amazon.com and they had several that were mentioned here. Guess I'll have to order one from them. We were in Bonaire last July and had no idea what fish we were seeing. I really enjoy this newsgroup, but it makes me wish we were going back real soon!

You can find a list of all the Bonaire books and tapes Amazon offers (along with a link that allows you to purchase the books from Amazon) at http://www.InfoBonaire.com/html/bookstore.html.

Thanks Jake. I checked out the page and found several that look like what I am interested in finding. Now I just have to decide what to get!
Thanks again.

Leigh Ann
