Margarite and I are planning a trip to Bonaire this September. We plan to be there Sept. 9 - 23, 2003. We are very hopeful that this time period will coincide with the coral spawn, which I believe to be around the 13th of September, I am sure there is someone who frequents BT that knows better that I.

Ahhh, bummer, it looks like we will miss it by a week, arriving the 20th of Sept. Is this a night diving experience only, the spawning? Would love to see it but our trip has been planned for a year and a half, no way to change dates now!

I think the main spawning is on the 15th to the 17th but sea cucumbers and brittle stars will be active for longer.

See http://www.habitatdiveresorts.com/coralspawn2003.html

for more details.

We will be there 13th to 27th September and plan to do lots of late night dives on the main nights.

Any locals know if there will be anything to see after Sept. 20th? We arrive that afternoon and I don't think I can manage a night dive on that date....

I believe that the majority of the spawning happens over only 2-3 nights - so you have to hit it right on. Last year someone published a detailed list of what corals were expected to spawn on what dates . . . can't remember who though.

Thanks for the link Brian, this was exactly what I was looking for. For those interested in the spawn this link provides both months, days and times for various types of coral spawn.
