I'm looking forward to my first visit to Bonaire this November. Other than not coming via cruise ship and to stay longer, what recommendations do you all have as to dive shops I should contact? I prefer to go with independent operators rather than the ship's excursions whenever possible.

I'm AOW certified, though still gaining in dive experience, will be looking for digital photography opportunities.

Thank you!

Amber

Hi Amber,

I'm going to be new to Bonaire myself, but I'm sure others can give you good advice. Please check this website, http://www.stopcruisepollution.org, and make sure you're coming on a cruise ship that plays by the rules! Money talks, and there's no reason that cruise ships can't be a viable partner in keeping our reefs healthy.

Best,
Cyn

i know that photo tours divers occasionally takes one of their boats out with cruise ship divers...

but any one of the other local dive ops would be able to help as well and you definitely want to be able to use their experience (vs. the cruise ship staff)...

my 2 cents;)

Contact the Divi Flamingo's dive operation, Dive Divi. They are right next to the pier. We were very satisfied with them.

Amber -

Another dive operator that a lot of folks use and like is Toucan Divers.

They have several locations on the island. Here is the link for their shop at the Plaza Resort: http://www.toucandiving.com/.

You are right: next time you'll want it to be a dive trip solely to Bonaire!
