Sorry Annie: Spent my time in Jamaica up around Port Maria and Oracabessa. I know they make Jamaican pottery up there. Don't know if there's anything like that around Mo Bay. Might be a gallery where you can see some terrific paintings by Jamaican artists. And, they have some great antiques from the period of the Eng. plantations. And sometimes tours of an old plantation/sugar mill. And the coffee plantations. Just not sure what's around Mo Bay.

Oooh forgot...see if there are any of the rum distillers close enough to reach. If there are, your friend may never care if the flight's late.I did pick up some lovely sari silks as well. (not sure if you still have to buy them 'in bond'. Means you pay the store, and it'll be delivered to you from a bonded warehouse,at the airport.( not for local consumption). Maybe a bit tight for a 4 hr. window.

Ann, we will also have a long delay in Montego Bay and I have been going to web sites checking out things to do, however, I like Kerri's idea!

My friend told me one cannot leave Montego Bay Airport. When you are in transit you do NOT clear customs hence cannot leave the airport. He could not even go for a smoke on his 4 hour delay. Annie

Somewhere here months ago Jake and others had comments about freedom to use a VIP lounge at Montego Bay for passengers in transit to Bonaire. Much more comfortable. A keyword search and some patience should turn it up--or perhaps Jake will 'tell it again'.

Yes, do tell Jake...also, when LEAVING BON is it important to check in so early in the day for an afternoon flight? Annie

It isn't really 'important' as in vital. People do it to avoid standing in a the long line at check-in when everyone else arrives. On ALM, it allows a better choice of seats. It also allows a return to accommodations for a shower and change to fresh clothes after struggling with luggage in Bonaire's humidity. Makes the check-in and trip home much more pleasant though leaving Bonaire is never really 'Pleasant'.

If they did let you go through Customs and leave the airport, it's a few minutes by taxi to the "tourist strip" of MoBay, where there are several decent beaches, shopping and good restaurants. I love the Pork Pit for jerk, i.e. Jamaican barbecue. For more of a meal, the Native is good. You could also rent a car and go for a drive. Virtually any way you went from Mo Bay would be scenic, but I'd vote for driving inland, into the hills.
