1. Delta flight early check in??? I thought it was a saturday flight??

2. Continental line out the terminal and down the block as usual. 3 desks for 2 planes at least Delta had 5 lines for 1 plane what a difference in service.

3. Anyone arrive or using the parking had better still be carrying guilders. As usual the government is better at issuing regulations than carrying them out themselves. Be interesting to see how long it takes them to change the machines to USD.

The Delta Flight was yesterday's flight that canceled (not sure why).

delta nonstop to atlanta from bonaire 1/1/2011 cancelled due to mechanical malfunction. we waited 6 hours in the terminal before the flight was cancelled and rescheduled for 8am sunday. it actually took off 9:15 today..all ongoing flights are in doubt as this is the end of the holiday period and flights are pretty booked. some folks were given vouchers to wannadive, others to divi, others to buddy dive...varying success in obtaining dinner....about 200 really miserable people on this flight.....with possiblity of not getting home until monday...two days late.
sent via inflight internet (big deal)

Phil hope it goes better for those on board. Always an issue when one is at the end of the line with few resources like BON and no real alternative flights.

Departure to the US is almost always a PITA from Flamingo.

How about arrivals these days, especially Saturday morning when two Continental flights arrive about one hour apart. Has there been any effort to speed up the process through immigration? Hope so -- we're on the Houston red-eye which arrives 6:15 AM Feb. 12... or thereabouts...

In my experience, the fantasies about having a little more time on the island, about not having to go home so soon, are way better than the reality of cancelled flights and long airport waits.
Phil, hope the rest of your trip worked out.

Jeff - FWIW, the Saturday a.m. Houston flight gets in before the Newark flight (or at least always has when I've taken it), so the Houston people get thru fairly quickly...in my experience anyway.

One tip we've finessed over the past few years is for at least one of us to get a seat as close to the front as possible (if we aren't in first class) and have that person clear customs and head straight for the car rental, leaving the other person (further back in line) to collect the luggage. Of course, this only works if you are willing to sit apart for the flight down - which we are.

The timing usually works that we end up meeting each other at the same time, and we are out of Flamingo pretty quickly. This strategy has worked for us the last three trips.
