Well there you go, had to go and brag on delta's schedule..started out perfect, only 1:38 turn-a-round in atlanta, just perfect, then in bonaire mid afternoon...just perfect, until airline sends change in schedule that makes our atlanta turn only 51 min..now i know that is doable, especially in atlanta,if, and of course that's where the big if is, the flight to atlanta leaves on time with no delays, if not....worried about no subsequent flights to get on, delta has one to aruba a little later, but looks pretty full already...shoulda knocked on wood..got our track shoes ready for the run

Hang in there. I made a 5 minute connection in Miami the other day. I got real lucky. My plane landed two gates down from my next plane. Good thoughts for you and your tight connection. BTW...my luggage made it too.

TRIBS..i'm callin you the day before to borrow some of your magic mojo...you know it's amazing some of the things age will do, 15 years ago, i wouldn't have even worried about a 51 min connection, of course it seems the airline industry was a little more consumer friendly back then, they actually seemed to care if you missed a flight or lost luggage

I just got very lucky that day. I had a 40 minute connection originally in Miami and all of my flights were late that day. They were all over booked and needed to bump people and San Juan and Miami both had huge standby lists (over 30 people each). My husband had a similar story in Miami a few days before my flight and made a 21 minute connection. It can be done. :-)

Just a thought, but it you think the connection it to tight, you could ask Delta to put you on an earlier flight (or one the night before if there is not an earlier one). Might be a lot easier than the alternative, and since they changed the flight time, they should do it free of charge. Good Luck!

Tim...that varies on the airlines. AA moved my flights, which shortened my connection time, and would not reticket me for another flight unless I was willing to pay the $100.00 change fee. They did say they would gladly reticket me if I missed the flight, but to do so before the incident actually happened would cost me the fee.

We had a 40 minute connection in ATL in March that turned into a 20 minute connection because our inbound to ATL was late and we still made it....barely. I sent my wife and 11yr old to run on ahead while I handled to carry-ons. The Delta gatekeeper was waiting in the hall for me and I was the last one on the plane. Checked bags didn't make it, though....

Tommy, if you don't mind me asking, how and when did they get your bags to bonaire?

We weren't going to Bonaire, we were going to Montserrat. The Delta flight we barely caught was going to Antigua, where we connected to Montserrat on WinAir. The bags got to us 2 days later. I think they got to Antigua the next day, then to us on Montserrat the day after.

Call and get them to rebook on an earlier flight/day. 51 minutes... man. All it would take would be the moon to be in the wrong phase or the creek to be rising and you'd be cooked.

I did it, and the rep wanted to charge me for re-depositing my FF miles, re-issuing my FF miles, and the $100 change fee for each of 2 tickets, total about $350. My re-bookings were caused by their changes in schedule, so I escalated to a manager and she waived all the fees and rebooked me.

And that's where the rub comes in, can't take off the day before due to work and no flights late enough to make it to atlanta the evening before..not sure how delta would get the bags down, in the event we did make it and they didn't since that's the only flight till the following sat..will be holding our breaths until the first flight pulls up to the gate..at least atlanta is fairly easy to moto through, but still, this is our bonaire trip, not just a normal vacation, this is bonaire, they just don't understand at the airline..passenger rights, at least in my mind, have gone down the tube the last 2 years

Monty,
My dive shop did the Atl-Bon run in March... we were late leaving O'Hare due to weather, what had started as a 50 minute "layover" turned into 20 minutes. We hoofed it onto the train and made it to the gate by the time we were slated to leave. They held the plane for us, but then again we were a group of 13. As it was we waited on the tarmac for another 35-40 minutes and were an hour late getting into Bon.
Keep the faith:-) And like you said... have your running shoes on!
