Greetings

I have just spent 6 weeks living (or so it seems) at the airport meeting and greeting customers. For the past 5 years I have had the privilege of working with the sweetest most dedicated taxi men and one woman. My colleagues in the industry make the wait for our very special guests fun and light.

In a post under accommodations one customer (mine as a matter of fact) missed his meet and greet from an assigned taxi driver. It sometimes dumbfounds us waiting and also for the client why there is a missed meeting. Well here is my take:

Many times people coming out clog up the arrival area and people cannot see us holding our signs with your names. Many times people with car rentals SPEED outside to get to the car company NOT looking for us. Sometimes we turn to help another and might miss you. PLEASE ask your property or travel agent if meet and greet is included. Read the directions on your documents. Take time to look for your greeter. I had 7 MISSED meet and greets this past weekend alone and it is really frustrating to get up early or to wait 2 hours for nothing. In turn it is frustrating to see client complaints when they do NOT see their taxi man. I know these men and they stand DILIGENTLY holding signs. Slow down coming out. I know it's a long flight but we are eager to help.

Thanks!

:-)

Great Post Anne, thanks for reminding us that Island time should start as soon as you come down the stairs of the plane..
Slow down and look around, lots to see..especially if your name is on a card...
May I suggest using an open umbrella , an especially colorful one that you let the people know about??? It would be highly visible to all..Or using a extension of some sorts to hold the name card above the crowd...a broom handle would work...

You should see the variety of interesting high signs the people who lead the japanese tourists around the city use, some are quite elaborate, feathers and stuff on the end of a umbrella, cane, or stick.

Remember the orange antenna balls which came out so you could find your car in parking lots in the sixties? They worked swell the first day.

We saw the same thing in Italy when the tour guides were taking their groups through Rome around the city sites. Perhaps a big flamingo on a stick, others could use a turtle or iguana :-)

Here's our local guide "Charlie" in Shanghai last November. Our tour director "Diana" used that little umbrella for the three weeks we were there. When carried by our 6'4" fellow traveller you could not miss it. We had a great time and I even spotted a dive boat in Hong Kong.
