I think the real issue was that it kept breaking down from the hammering it took from the waves. I have heard that it was misplaced and it is believed that it is now somewhere in Indonesia.

It is, indeed, no more. That said, you will find Divi Divi air very efficient, quick and reasonable (about $100 US r/t).

That is so sad... I really wanted to live the Ferry experience. My husband says it is amazing because the more hi tech everything is becoming and now i get to love the old fashion ways. Thank you all!

Literally everyone who took the ferry from Curacao got deathly sea sick, including the crew. So much for the old fashion ways...There were even ambulances at the arrival dock on more than one occasion...

Just ran across this thread, Connie, and thought your husband might be interested to look into St. Vincent & the Grenadines. Just last year, two of us (and we're seniors, not backpackers) island-hopped by local boats all the way from Kingstown, St. Vincent, to St.George's, Grenada, and it was fabulous. The closest thing to what you might be looking for was the MV Barracouda, which does a scheduled freight + passenger run between Kingstown and Union Island. Just thought you'd like to know it's still possible somewhere...
