I thought it might be helpful if there was a list of business that are open after the 8:40 pm AA flight from San Juan lands. Can we start a list ? I can't even think of anything to contribute.

I think it really depends on when you are able to "go out" as most of what is open would be bars and restaurants. If you arrive at 8:40 am and have picked up a rental car, you will likely not be checked in to your room until around 9:30. (Say, 20 minutes for luggage, passport control, customs, 10 minutes at the car rental counter, 10 minutes to hotel and 10 minutes to check in).

There are still some restaurants open that late and it might be best to just walk around town. Some good candidates might include the KFC, City Cafe, etc. although some seem to stay open late if they are still doing a brisk business. Also, check your hotel.

There is the little mini-mart at Lisa Gas and this is a place one could stop by on the way to the hotel for some basic supplies.

Hi Debbie
Hope all is well with your daughter? I've heard so much about Pasa Bon pizza, is it really that good?

Hi Bill, Thanks for asking, yes, she was not hurt physically, just scared to death seeing a big white SUV fly through the stop sign. Her only way to avoid getting hit was to hit the high curb on the side and she did that a little too strongly, car can be repaired though. :-)

I think Pasa Bon Pizza is great. Lisa is awesome with her skills in the kitchen. I hear the lasanga is good too, been meaning to try it, but everytime I smell the pizza, I forget. I order it at least once a week, they do take a way too, so good for nights when you are night diving. :-)

What are the directions to Pasa Bon from the airport? We'll be arriving via AA on the night flight from SJ on 8/17.
I've heard so many great things about Pasa Bon,,,I must try this place! Robyn

Robyn,
If you're staying in any of the northern resorts, you'll drive right by it. It's on the main road (Gob N Debrot? Having a brain fart here...) and there's a stoplight out front. It's on the right side of the road, heading north.

If I remember correctly, it's right next to Bistro de Paris, so if you see that sign heading north, you've just passed Pasa Bon.

Thanks for the info Susan, I really appreciate it.
We're actually staying on the south part of the island at the LBR,,so I'm not sure if driving to Pasa Bon would take too much time. I really hope not! Robyn

Robyn, I got a place at LBR and just drop off the bags at home and go right to Pasa Bon. You can do it, no problem. Also, you might want to call ahead and order take away and just bring it back to the house. Phone: 780-1111 What unit are you staying in at LBR?

Hi Debbie,
Thanks for the info.
The unit we're staying in is #6 and I'll be there from 8/17 - 8/24. The friends I'm sharing it with are actually staying a few days longer than me, but I have to get back for work. :-(
Will you be there during those dates? If so, it would be nice to meet you! Robyn

Robyn, I will be there from 8-5 to 8-19, so you might catch me when you first get on island. I'm in Unit #13, I know where #6 is, will try to stop by or you can pop by ours. :-)

Sure Greg! If you arrive on a Fri.,Sat., Sun, just throw the luggage in your truck and head over to Bobbe Jans for take away as sometimes that time of night, they will close early and I just order take away, I have the guys stay with the truck and luggage while I get it.

There was a mention of a place in town, called Julio's too in an earlier thread. Check the archives for that one too. Julio's is a local snack place that is on corner of town by where the Lost Penquin used to be.

Most restaurants close at 10pm for dinner, so keep that in mind if trying for any of them. Some, I think Ribs Factory may be open till 10:30 pm, at least that is what the Bonaire Dining Guide states.

Depending on where you are staying, you can ask them to have some food supplies for a fee to have and not worry about where to run off to pronto. Heck, something cool to drink, a bright comes to mind, a loaf of bread and cheese sounds good that time of night. Oh and some fruit too would be nice.

Thanks for these suggestions everyone,,,it looks like there will be no shortage of great food choices once we arrive. :-)
I'd like to carry this question one step further please.....
What places are available for breakfast or even a 'to go' cup of coffee and pastry in the a.m.? Naturally, those of us arriving on the night flight won't be able to get to the market until the next day, and not even first thing in the a.m. if we have check out dives to do.
Thanks for your helpfulness everyone! Robyn

Annette's Bakery is the place for pastry in the morning, you should see the size of her cinn. buns with raisens! Located at the end of town next to the Zerox shop if going north, right side of road and if going south, right before town on your left side. Bit of a ride for you, Robyn as you are staying at LBR, ask Francie, the woman who takes care of the place you are staying in to stock you with some staples like coffee, bread and jam when you get there for the morning. :-)

The name of the bakery is The Last Bite Bakery. Annette does some really great breakfast quiches too besides the cinnamon buns. She also has lots of other things. We make a point of stopping by after diving the northern sites to get something for breakfast the next day at least 2-3 times over the week we are there. She has great cakes too.

Thanks Debbie, sorry if I came across grumpy before, as that was not the case and I hope no one took it the wrong way.

I keep forgeting about Bobbe Jans ! If we're hungry, that's where I'll stop if they are still open.

I really can't believe it took me 5 trips until I ate at Bobbe Jans, or had the BBQ buffet at Captain Don's, especially since that's where I stay. This time I'll be sure to do both.

Greg, Nope, didn't take it that way at all. :-) It took me quite a while before I realized that Bobbe Jans was only open certain nights as I kept trying on nights they were closed and never read the sign.

the funny thing is that when heading into town in the evening, I usually turn down the road the Bobbe Jans is on so I can drive along the water front. I've probably done it dozens of times. This past December my wife and I finally ate there, and have been kicking ourselves for not doing it sooner, and also for not trying the BBQ at Habitat sooner. Both were really good, but for Habitat it's best to show up right when it starts.

I can't believe I didn't think to ask about places that are open very early. That's also nice to know since I have an early departure flight.
