For those who find themselves on an ATR 72 aircraft, the type American Eagle flies between San Juan and Bonaire and all over the Caribbean, I thought you might like to know some information I obtained from American Airlines.

Specifically, I was told that the dimensions of the largest item that would fit in the overhead of said aircraft are approximately 22" x 18" x 10". This was very difficult information to obtain and I stress that American stressed that the dimensions are "approximate."

As you who have traveled on the ATR 72 know, carry ons too large to fit in the overhead are put in the nose of the airplane. That is fine except there are times when we need access to certain items in-flight.

We learned the hard way the first time we flew an ATR, many years ago, that a carry on that fits in the overhead of a big jet will not fit in the overhead of an ATR. Until now, I had never gone to the trouble to try to learn the actual dimensions of what would fit.

Hope this is of some use to someone.

So, Charles, since you went to all that trouble to find out... when's your trip? :-)

Cheryl -

We hope to be able to get off in August, but that's not certain. We missed our annual trip last year, so we particularly would value a Bonaire visit about now.

Chas.

Charles,

And there I was imagining you in a lounge chair in your backyard, hand over your eyes blocking the sun, as an American Eagle flies overhead.....how exciting!

Hope you can get your Bonaire trip soon,
