We were wanting some good Puerto Rican food so we took a taxi to the Sheraton Hotel, Old San Juan, to enjoy the lunch buffet at Mofongo. It was absolutely delicious! Walked around Old San Juan a bit then grabbed a taxi back to the airport. The taxi was $19 each way.

You may want to try to go standby if there are earlier connections. We did it on Memorial day with AA and ended up not having to do our 8 hour layover in San Juan.

Another idea is lunch at Pikayo and the Museum of Fine Arts outside of OSJ. Both in the same location. Google Pikayo. We are trying it next time we have a layover. Also Pamela's for lunch in Ocean Park is close to the airport and ON the beach dining
