Has anyone else had the experience that Air Jamaica's fares seem to vary wildly from day to day?

I am trying to book BWI to BON for June and just watched the fare go from around $600 up to $1400 and now back down to around $800.

Has anyone discovered any method to the madness? Is it common for the fares to go up, and then eventually come back down over time?

Welcome Tbrubes...we always fly AJ from BWI. I, however, don't deal with the airline madness but trust my travels to Kim @ Caradonna.
www.caradonna.com

Give them a call and inquire what they can do for you; we have used her for almost 12 years now and NEVER disappointed. Their first class is very reasonable too :-)

Good luck...

Tbrubes...might be spring vacation and Easter holidays, etc. causing the fluctuations. Rates usually show up cheaper during the week (Mon-Thurs) than on weekends, too.

I second Caradonna Caribbean Tours, too. We have worked with Amy on trips and have never been disappointed.

Good luck and welcome to BT! Carole

Kim always comes thru for us too.
She understands how to get there and how crazy it can be.

We booked our AJ seats last month for our April trip and noted the same thing - the AJ prices varied wildly almost day to day. The low price was something in the order of $520 round trip (Philly to Bonaire), the high close to $1100. We got seats for $678 and felt lucky. We even tried to get AJ to give us a discount or credit once the price dropped to $520, but no such luck.

Thanks everyone for the input. The fare has dropped again today back to $630... I'm on the fence as to whether to gamble and wait for it to go into the 500s or jump on now before it spikes again!

James Reilly: how far ahead did you see the price drop?

YorkieMom/Carole/Lorraine: Did you all use Caradonna to book the whole trip as a package?

We used Kayak.com to price travel to Bonaire. By altering dates for our trip, we were able to schedule our trip after Spring Break and Easter when prices were through the roof, and so focused in on the economical travel dates of April 21 - 28. We purchased our tickets in early February.

Subsequent to that purchase, AJ prices went crazy. First the price slowly went up to close to $1100 PP. Then no tickets on the flight were available at any price - this situation lasted a few weeks. Then suddenly there were seats available for $520, but we could not make the switch without paying a $150 per ticket fee - so not worth it. Now it appears the flight is sold out again.

If you were thinking of the usual, cheaper if you buy earlier idea - I did not see that reflected in the price change I saw. We frequently find it save money to be flexible about when to travel to Bonaire. For example in late summer the prices drop for trips taken in late Fall.

Yes, we use Caradonna for everything. I call Kim, tell her when we want to go; she already knows our resort preference and she makes it all happen. We always fly first class and AJ's fare is reasonable. Kim knows us like family so she works her magic and......off to BON we go twice a year :-)

We have used Caradonna for 19 years and it's just so easy for us to let them handle everything. I just sit back and wait for my tickets to show up :-)

Good luck with whatever you do; you'll have a wonderful time!!!!

Have the AJ flights been timely? I know about a year ago there were some problems, but haven't heard any complaints lately. We thought we'd try them again....for June.

Has anyone ever received Air Jamaica tickets with unassigned seats numbers. I'm with a group of 20 and six of us don't have assigned seat numbers on the first leg of the trip. I'm told they only assign a certain number of seats and the rest get assigned upon check in. Hopefully we won't have any problems with this. If it was our last leg I would care less...but it is our fist leg of the trip. We are flying ATL to Montego Bay to CUR with Air Jamaica.

Thanks!

Hi Tammy:

Fran and I just got back a week ago and on one leg of our trip we did not have seat assignments. We called the AJ 1-800 # and they told us we had to get them at check-in. We arrived at check-in in Philly and were told, No, we cannot give you seat assignments (the problem seats were on the return leg), you have to call the 1-800 number.

Bottom line, where we checking in to leave Bonaire, we got seat assigments no problem. Just like it's web site, several AJ features have design problems, but overall the flight was fine.
