Thanks Freddie, I have read the TSA rules but apparently it is up to the screeners to decide if you look like the mad knitter who would be dangerous on a plane with needles. And some knitters are getting their needles confiscated at the security checkpoints ;[ losing their needles and the work they have done.

maybe you can use plastic ones?? I don't know what difference this would make.. I thought I had read someplace that the TSA allows them now I am going to look around here as I think I read it here... This woman was really knitting away on my trip home.. I actually can't believe that they allow them as they can be weapons for sure......

Security is real tight.
On my recent trip to BON, security took my 2 year old daughter's blankee and shoes off and placed them thru the Xray machine. This resulted in a 10 minute cry. I am not offended by this action, however they did laugh at her which was not nice.

Knitting needles and crochet hooks, esp in plastic and with small rounded scissors are fine. No problem to Bon or other places and we fly out of DC which tends to be more than vigilent.

No offense to the knitters, but to allow knitting needles and not a nail clipper or nail file... that's ridiculous! Our government at work!

No offense taken Becky. But maybe the knitters of the world can keep terrorism at bay because at least we will be armed if something happens on a plane. Sit by me.
For awhile they did not allow them at all but the rules do say now that is it ok but, no matter what the rules say, there are plenty of knitters who have had to take their knitting off the needles and throw them out before they would be allowed to board. I am going to bring my bamboo ones, not metal, though what difference that makes I don't know. I hate wasting time in an airport. Knitting at least gives me the illusion of doing something useful.

sorry Freddie... I'm on dial up and links just don't open well (or very fast at all!). Last time I flew, they were still taking nail clippers away.
