Hi, I will be visiting Bonaire for the first time in April and, thanks to a flight cancellation by Suriname Airways, I have a few surprise extra days of vacation. I was thinking that I would like to go to Venezuela, and was saddened to learn that there is no ferry. However I noticed on another site that there are boats from Venezuela almost every day that arrive, is this true? If so, will these boats accept passengers? Anyone know how much they usually charge per person if they do? Thanks.

Hi MariRuth and Welcome to BT! The only boat I know that comes from Venezuela is the fruit and veggie guy and I really don't think you want to be on that! I also don't think they take folks on it either. I do believe there are airlines now that go to Venezuela from Bonaire. Might be worth looking into or someone here may know which ones and costs. Me, I would stay the extra days on Bonaire. Have a great vacation.

Hi MariRuth!,there is a ferry project from Puerto Cabello(Venezuela)to Curacao and Bonaire,it is still not working but I recently heard it will probably be ready this year, also Dutch Antilles Express flies about three days a week to Bonaire from Caracas and Valencia but first they make a lay over in Curacao and the round trip ticket costs about U.S $280.

Hi Pedro!,well, they did not say the date exactly but they assured it was going to be ready for this year as they are still preparing the port for the cruises. This updated information I heard it on venezuelan(I live in Venezuela)TV news about a week ago so I think this time it is serious.

I seriously doubt there will be a ferry from Venezuela since not only are the trips nightmares, the market for passengers is quite small. Also, be aware if you are a US citizen, the state department has post travel warnings due to the strained relations between the counties.

I doubted it too Mr.Michael but the Carabobo goverment keeps on talking about it,they say the want Puerto Cabello to become in an international port not only for the Netherland Antilles market but for the rest of cruises that sail in the Caribbean region,I saw on the tv news that some cruises have already come to the port, one was full of german tourists so I think this time it is serious.

I will believe it when I see it...Ferries will not work...we have tried and tried..they go broke, people get sick from the ride, it takes hours to get through customs once you arrive, ad infinitum...talk to me in ninety days..

It will do really take hours and hours and more hours but not to the Netherland Antilles but for Margarita,it is too far from Puerto Cabello.
