We will be returning to the US in March on AA via san juan to Dallas/FW to Grand Rapids MI. We normally load up on "duty free" in San Juan but since we are not familiar with Dallas/FW we do not want to get in a situation similar to LaGuardia where you have to exit the American Eagle terminal and go thru security(no liquids) again to catch the next flight. Anyone know whether this is a problem in Dallas?

Sparty -

You should not have a problem at D/FW. You deplane in a secure area and unless you intentionally leave that area, i.e., to baggage claim, to the airport hotel, etc., I can see no reason you would have to go through security again.

Just to be sure, you might check directly with American and with D/FW (http://www.trails.com/tcatalog_trail.asp?trailid=BGS083-049).

Buen viaje!

At DFW they even have transportation between terminals that stays within the security area.

We fly back through DFW too to GRR. We really like DFW airport. The transportation between terminals in really great and fast. You will have no problems.

Being a Philadelphian, and hating Dallas because of the Cowboys, I must say Dallas/Ft. Worth is the best airport I ever had the pleasure of flying into and out. It is just pure class all the way. Do you want to get me started on Phila International Airport? I hope not. If you are religious, you don't want to hear the words coming out of my virgin mouth.

Jim -

Thanks for the kind words. Since we live here, we never change planes at DFW, so it is good to hear that the design works for at least one of those millions every year who do.

We can't reciprocate with a review of Phila Intl simply because we've not been there. But it has been our observation to notice that travelers always seem to be especially critical of their home ports.

A bit of airport trivia since you have been through DFW: are you aware that in a matter of months Chesapeake Energy will start drilling wells at DFW to tap into the Barnett Shale natural gas formation? The Barnett Shale already has yielded some monster play in Fort Worth in Tarrant County (the line between Tarrant and Dallas counties runs down the center of DFW). The joke is that if they hit as good production at the airport as in Fort Worth, we can shut down those silly runways, get rid of those nuisance airplanes and make more money off natural gas than ever could be made in the airport business! This is Texas, after all.
