Greetings Bonaire experts!
My wife and I will be traveling to Bonaire Jan 20. We are staying at the Happy Holiday Homes. We have several questions: 1)We have heard that it is best to go to the grocery store on certain days (due to incoming shipments). Is this true? and what is a good grocery store? 2)What is the water temp right now? is there good visibility? Any helpful advice or information for Bonaire Newbees would be greatly appreciated. We are so EXCITED!!

Jason, welcome to BT. We always look at grocery shopping as an adventure and never go with a list because you never know what you will find! I like Warehouse for yoghurt, lunch meat, cheese, bread, pasta, chicken; More for Less for fresh fruits and veggies, Exito for yummy rolls, the Carneceria for roasted chicken on Sat morning. We also make stops at La Portugesa and the market near the Chinese restaurant past Kooyeman (sorry I cannot remember the name!) Saturdays are crowded at Warehouse and there is a minimum there if you are using a credit card. Shipments can have a big impact on what is available, especially if you are looking for fresh milk. Check for that early in the weekend.

Jason see my post under dining for a taste of shopping on Bonaire. There is no one stop shopping unless you really need only the basics. I believe the container ship comes in on Fridays, not absolutely sure about this. Warehouse is the closest to HHH (head toward town, turn right at Lisa Gas), but not by much. And my wife may kill me for spilling this, but if you are a Coke Lite addict, and if everywhere else is sold out as was the case most of last week, try stopping at NO! NO! PUT DOWN THE >>>>>AARRGHHH!!!!!

Tom...The Warehouse (on Kaya Industrial) & Cultimara (in town) are 2 separate places to shop for food.

More for Less has the best fresh baked bread...but you have to get there first thing in the morning to get it.

Check the expiration dates on milk...it is often "bad."

More for Less has fine organic fruit & veg - flown in twice a week from Ecuador, I seem to remember.

The "Chinese market past Kooyman" is "Wing Cheung". If you remember "everybody wang chung tonight", you'll have the pronunciation close enough. Good basic shopping, open Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Produce department is a little weak compared to any of the majors.

You shouldn't buy fresh milk on Bonaire. Ridiculously expensive, frequently past date, and never good enough to be worth the money. UHT milk in the carton is a much better deal.

Hah! my husband laughes at me when I pack at least one can/bottle of Diet Coke for each day I'm on the island in case I can't find it. I'm not a nice person if I don't have at least 1 can in the morning. (I also prefer the taste of US Dc vs Coke Light).

This year I bought the boxed milk & my kids actually preferred it to the fresh. go figure - I do treat them with a gallon of fresh chocolate milk.

This year I found Cultimara had great selection.

If you like beans, they had amazing pre-seasoned cans of beans (kidney & black beans to name a few) that you could add to pasta or browned meat for a quick meal. My teenager is a vegetarian and loved these over pasta or just heated up with some taco chips.
