I noticed from some previous posts that AJ did not allow regulators as carry on baggage. Is this their standard practice? I also want to carry a laptop but from their website it sounds like that would count as two pieces of carry on baggage and not allowed. Any feedback would be appreciated. My previous trip was on Continental and have never flown AJ.

We have flown AJ for 8 trips out of ATL - always take our regs in carry-on (with BCs and cameras) with no problem whatsoever... most recent was Oct 2006.

"1 carry-on bag up to 30 lbs (14kg) with maximum dimensions of 45” (114cm) each"
I would think you could get your regulator and your laptop in the same case if you got the right one..
Post 9/11 we have traveled with AJ and we always put our regs in a backpack and then our cameras in a roll-on carry on.. Never had a problem..
Good luck.

Never had a problem with regs or dive computers on AJ. Do be prepared for US security to pull you bag apart, as it all looks very interesting on the xray machine.

Every time we have gone through security with our regs, they have pulled the bag apart. Its gotten to the point that I tell them what it is and open it before it gets to the Xray machine. From what the TSA people have told me, the reg and hoses show up as black. On the bright side, it does start some nice conversations about diving and where you are going that generally start with; "Are you going to Cozumel?".

Last few trips on AJ out of Baltimore (most recent was about 18 months ago) we were limited to one carryon per person. Just had to learn how to pack regs, laptop and other key stuff into one 20-inch rollaboard for each of the two of us.

On multiple subsequent trips out of Washington Dulles (via Aruba), we packed two regulators in a single 20-inch rollaboard. Never had it opened by TSA, although I always tell the x-ray attendant that we have multiple scuba regulators in the bag.

Suspect it comes down to whether the TSA x-ray attendant is knowledgeable (or not) in what regs look like, how busy they are and what their day was like between when they started and when you go through security. Further, the rules of what can be in your carryon is governed by TSA and not the airline. Here is the link to TSA's website specific to scuba equipment: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/assistant/editorial_1190.shtm
