Well, we were on island in late June for our 8th or 9th time.

In mid July we moved from the states to London.

Between the trip to Bonaire (ahhhhhhhh), the pack out (ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh), temp houseing (ehhhhhhhhhhhhh) and finally a move to our final houseing (ummmmmmmmmmm) we have been fairly busy.

While I had been wondering for some time, I now have the time to ask THE importent question, how do folks from the UK get to Bonaire?

I'm beginning to plan for the next trip and could use some help.

Hi Dean, Welcome to the UK,

The quickest and easiest way to get to BON is with KLM via Amsterdam, LHR-AMS-BON. Try their website: KLM Booking.

If your free this week end there is the Dive Show at the NEC Birmingham, that should get you in the mood for diving.

Dave

Yes, the KLM online booking system is excellent, Dean. You also get e-tickets and can check-in online so all you need to do is drop your bags at Heathrow.

One thing to look at is the big day-to-day variation in KLM pricing. If you can be flexible on dates, it pays to check out the different options.

Hi Dean,

Klm flights are excellent from Amsterdam to Bonaire- never had a problem with them- try to get the morning flight from Amsterdam though- around 11am- so you`re in Bonaire in the afternoon. The other flight leaves Ams at 11 something at night and you arrive on the island in the middle of the night!!!
Klm flies a MD-11, a pretty big plane, really comfortable too!

However the night flight can be a lot cheaper! Make sure you have a good look around the dates you could fly. We saved loads by flying out on Friday teatime rather than Saturday morning and will get a bit more time on Bonaire. Bob will only have to take an extra afternoon off. 8 days and counting. (22 posts and counting :-) )

We have done both flights and for some reason most times we have been on the night flight. Usually KLM give you a UK to AMS flight with only 2 hours before the AMS BON flight which can be tight if they have delays or cancellations. We had a cancelled flight and KLM switched us to BA and if the flight landed on time we had 15 minutes to get across Schipol before take off. We made it and some how our bags did as well. The scary bit was all the other luggage and passengers had gone and the belt stopped, 5 minutes later the belt restarted and our bags appeared.

What we do now is to turn up very early and ask KLM if we can take an earlier flight. We did this in September and rather than leave the UK in the evening we left early afternoon and took the train into Amsterdam, had a couple of beers and a Thai meal before returning to the airport. When we arrived at the gate and handed in our boarding cards we found we had been off loaded and our seats re-allocated as KLM had not updated the system. Fortunately they found us seats nearer the front and a spare seat as well.

Dean you may also want to check out Arkefly who are about to start flying AMS - Bonaire, it would mean booking separate tickets to Amsterdam but they appear to much cheaper than KLM.

See www.arkefly.com
