Does anyone have more information about the Continental flight from Newark - it is supposed to start in Dec 2006.

The Continental site has nothing on it..

Hi Anne,

If you go into the archives for about a month ago, there is a lengthy discussion on this flight. But here are the basics...

the flight leaves Newark just before midnite on Saturday nites. you arrive in BON about 5 hours later. The flight leaves BON on Sunday mornings (very early) & you get back to Newark in the afternoon. it is non-stop both ways. When you search for flights on Continnetal, search for round trips from Saturday to Sundays & you should find it.

I already have my mom & her boyfriend booked to come visit me in the end of January, so keep looking - it's definitely there!

Oh and I believe the service starts just before christmas, (december 15th maybe?)

And be sure to check the prices at continental.com during the day and at night. My mom said that the prices were more expensive after work hours & then they went back down the next morning. They got their tickets for $452 pp.

Just for laughs, I checked continental.com for Boston-Bonaire, via Newark, from Saturday to Sunday in late January. Sure enough, the flights come right up and the price is decent, only $678 to $725 RT including those nasty fees and taxes. :-(

But what's really annoying is the latest flight from BOS to EWR on Saturday they show is the 5:30 PM departure, giving you 5 hours of layover in exciting Newark...

I must be brain dead - when I check the Continental site it only wants to route me through Houston....

Can you give me the flight number if you have it.

Again, just for laughs, I figure, hey, let's just DRIVE from Boston area to Newark airport, it's faster that way, only four hours!

So then checking http://www.airportparkingreservations.com/airports/newark/ for parking for 15 days (Sat, 1/13/2007 through Sun 1/28/2007) I found a couple of parking facilities charging around $140 for the duration -- only $10/day.

So especially for two or more travellers, it might be reasonable to drive & park... :-)

Tom

We have had very good luck with Avistar parking. If you check their site you can get coupons for a weeks parking. They are off site but very good. Also works for NYC

I still can't figure out why I can't get the direct flight EWR to BON to come up

Hi Anne,

I just booked a trip in March on the direct Continental flight to Bonaire from Newark. Here are the flight numbers.

Newark-Bonaire - CO1553
Bonaire-Newark - CO 1556

Here is something interesting...I was purchasing tickets for 4 people. There were some dates that when I searched 4 passengers, the price per ticket was $50 more per ticket than when I searched 2 passengers. This wasn't for all the dates. I ended up buying 2 tickets and had my husband on another computer buying the other 2. It would have cost us $200 more if I bought them all together!

The best feeling is right after you just purchase tickets to Bonaire! ahhh. Expecially now that it is starting to get brisk in the East!

Karen

I punched in 12/16/06 through 12/24/06, the earliest week they are flying and it came right up, $686 RT (EWR-BON) including nasties. Heck, if I push any more buttons, I'll be booked!

I ended up calling Continental - turns out the Bonaire info site had the days off by one
Leaves Sat night returns on Sunday...

I am still playing with dates but the fare quoted on the phone was $546. beats the heck out of what American likes to charge.

I am having post Bonaire blues - was there in May for 10 days and now that New England has frost warnings I yearn for someplace warm and sunny.

Thanks to all for your help

A few years ago there was a name-chain motel (I believe it was a Marriott) adjacent to Newark International which allowed free parking for a week or two if you stayed one (or maybe 2) nights. People used that for early morning departures on ALM: drive in the night before, sleep and get to the early check-in on the motel shuttle.

That might work for the red-eye if you check-in to the motel in early afternoon, sleep and then catch the red-eye. Better than staying up for 24 hours, and the saving on Tom's parking cost would pay one night at the motel.

Worth exploring for 'drive-ins'.

Tom,

Sadly we will never use the CO flight to head to BOS because of that 5+ hour layover...UNLESS its under 700.00 then I might check into an airport hotel if I could find a good rate. Do you really want to drive to EWR in the winter? Ugh...
:-(

One of my friends swears by this parking lot at Newark airport. I'm close enough I just pay the $30 cab fare each way, so I don't hassle with my car.

When I lived in the states, I never flew up and down the east coast. Usually, renting a car at your origin and returning it at the airport is cheaper and faster than the connecting flight or parking for two weeks.

Does anyone know if Continental will allow for Saturday to Saturday travel? For example will Continental allow for a round trip flight leaving the USA on Saturday via Newark but then return the following Saturday via Houston once the Newark flights begin on Dec 16? Likewise is the reverse possible for a round trip flight leaving the USA on a Friday (via Houston) while returning to the USA on a Sunday flight (via Newark)?

Ok. I just checked Continental's web site. So if anyone else was wondering about my previous question, yes you can book flights combining both the Houston and Newark hubs. So when flying to Bonaire with Continental you can book your round trip tickets by using the below travel days (beginning Dec 16th)

Friday to Saturday
Friday to Sunday
Saturday to Saturday
Saturday to Sunday

Yes, Tommy H, we booked via Houston going to Bonaire and returning through Newark for our daughter traveling in March. This gave her one extra day.

We paid just over $1000..the additional day/re-routing cost maybe $4 or $5 more. Just for kicks I checked the same flight this past week and the fare was $1449 with only a few seats available on the IAH to BON flight. Most be nice to pay those $600 fare I see mentioned on BT. But when you only have specific dates and a connecting flight out of one of the most expensive airports...well Bonaire is still worth it ! :-)
