Man, 3 years ago it wasn't near as hard to get to Bonaire from Houston. Looks like now...you have to go through Newark and the ticket is $900+. Anyone have any suggestions? I might have to settle for Mexico!

Huh?
Carrie, there's a direct flight from Houston to Bonaire. It's a red-eye, though, Friday at 11:30 or so, arrives Bonaire around 5:30 in the morning on Saturday.

I'd love to be near Houston! We're flying Boston to Houston for this red-eye, and our travel day starts around 12:30 in the afternoon (when the airport transportation is picking us up for a 4:35 flight).

Carrie -

I am not sure I am reading your post correctly, but on the assumption you are not aware of Continental's once-a-week, non-stop,late night service between Houston Intercontinental and BON, you might wish to visit the Continental web site.

it depends on when you can travel. continental's redeye only flies once a week...leaving houston friday night about 1130 and getting to bonaire about 530AM...then the return flight leaves bonaire about 8AM or so but only on saturday mornings.

Carrie, have you tried looking through Curacao (usually via Miami) and then hopping Divi Divi or DAE to Bon, or to Aruba then to Bon via DAE? Either of those routes may offer more flexibility.

Carrie,

I used to use AJ before they dropped Houston as a Hub, so for the last couple of years I have used AA/AE from Houston-Miami-San Juan-Bonaire. It makes for a long day (about 12 hours), but the price is right, usually $550 - $595. My ticket for March is $593 (booked through Expedia), which wasn't too bad I thought considering fuel prices. The Continental flight hasn't worked for me since they only have the one flight a week. I always want to stay more than one week, but don't have enough time to stay two, so I usually stay 10-11 days and the AA/AE schedule accommodates that. Good luck with your search.

Carrie, maybe you are putting in the wrong days & that's why Continental is sending you through Newark. You have to search for flights from Friday to the next Saturday. If you search Sat. to Sat., then you'll get sent thru Newark.

We did the continental flight through houston from dallas this past summer and it was excellent. We paid extra to get into our house early, but we probably could have found something to do until check in time. Any of you who have a layover in houston while you are connecting should go up to pappadeaux's (it's close) and have some delicious cajun style food with plastic utensils... ha ha ha. However, they serve beverages in real glasses which is a great way to get relaxed before you hop on that late night flight and catch some zzzz's! Do your search from Friday to Saturday with Continental or it won't display. Or, I think you can fly to Aruba and catch a commuter plane from either e-liner.net or flydae.com, although I am not sure how much time and expense this will add to your trip...

Oh by the way, I am trying to book for November and the flights are coming up about $900. When Continental first added this flight we got it for $500. I'm having a hard time paying so darn much!

Here are my thoughts:
a) CO from IAH to BON (once a week)
b) You can try AA/AE via SJU. This would be something like Dallas to SJU to BON. Several days per week.
c) Try a package deal via someone like Caradonna.
d) Fly to CUR (it could be AA from MIA or AA/AE via SJU or CO or ...) and then BE or Divi Divi. This can be a very good choice as it is regular AA jet service into CUR (maybe even twice a day).
e) Last choice: fly via AUA (similar to option d but harder to get that last leg...)

Longer term: Try and game frequent flyer miles. I got a AA credit card (bonus of 25k miles) and then used it for a few major purchases. Bingo -- my trip this fall is costing me about $30 plus miles RATHER than the normal $700 to $800.

Ok. I just checked Continental's web site. Continental is expanding services to Bonaire as of Dec 16th by also using Newark as a hub to Bonaire. So when flying to Bonaire from the USA with Continental you can book your round trip tickets by using the below travel days (beginning Dec 16th)

Friday to Saturday
Friday to Sunday
Saturday to Saturday
Saturday to Sunday

Hi Everyone,
We will be flying Continental thru Houston in January. To those of you who have taken this flight I ask a couple questions.

Is this flight normally full?
With Continental now flying to Bonaire from Newark, is there any plans to cancel the Houston flight?

Thanks,
Dan and Julie

Our flight in July was full, and I checked several other weeks during the summer, and they were all full.

I certainly hope Continental does not cancel the Houston flight, this is great for us. Our flight next week only has a few seats open at this time and from what I can see by checking random Saturdays they are full most of the time.
