We are departing Bonaire Thursday and just wondering if anyone has left the island since the latest terrorist episode in UK? Just trying to determine if this will effect time at the airport etc.

Mark, if you are new to visiting Bonaire..you should know that almost anything can delay your flight.

Yes yes yes to Meryl's suggestion about paying your airport tax ahead of time. Saves a LOT of hassle and waiting in that line the morning of departure. That is one of my favorite helpful hints !

I am too late to answer Mark's question but I took the American Eagle flight to San Juan yesterday. The short answer is it was no problem at all. They were asking folks about lotion, liquids, etc., in Bonaire but since they were no longer hand-checking luggage (which was news to me), checking in was quicker than usual. They also allowed a woman to take her water bottle on board (I was jealous, I hadn't brought one assuming I couldn't!). Customs & Immigration at SJU was the same old drill, and while security looked hectic, it only took about 10-15 minutes to get through. Interestingly enough, I did not notice any extra measures/questioning there, although there were a few messages over the loudspeaker about increased security. As we boarded my flight to JFK here were about 5 TSA agents asking everyone what country they were a citizen of, but I didn't hear them asking anything else or searching anyone...

Al, that must have been a relief! So they are no longer hand checking the checked luggage when you leave? Maybe Bon to SJ isn't a risk in their book Interesting TSA asking what Country folks were a citizen of..and of course, you could always lie?

I believe the reason they are not hand checking checked bags is that the new Xray equipt is in place.

Cynde, I thought the SAME THING when I read that. You could make something up and they aren't checking?? What's the purpose of asking? So if you lie, and THEN they check and you are lying, you are in even bigger trouble I suppose.

Well we all had our passports out since we had just handed over our boarding passes, so they may have been requiring proof--they could see mine in my hand, so they didn't need to ask...
