Insel Air takes to the air

CURACAO ? In connection with the permanent certificate of airline company Insel Air International BV, there was a special gathering near Aeroclub Curacao at the airport yesterday afternoon. At the same time, the name of the first airplane of Insel Air, the 19-passenger Embraer Bandeirante airplane was unveiled; ?Ellis Juliana?, after the well-known all-round artist of Curacao. Unfortunately, the name on the airplane was mistakenly misspelled, because Juliana?s first name is spelled with one ?l?, Elis. He said once that his mother was very sparing with his name.

But that didn?t spoil the festivities, because the official signing of the air operator?s certificate (aoc) for Insel Air also took place yesterday by minister Kenneth Gijsbertha (MAN) of Transport. Tourism-commissioner, Gerrit Schotte (MKP) gave a speech.

The Embraer Bandeirante will be used for the inter-insular flights, explained director Edward Heerenveen. In cooperation with amongst others SLM, Insel Air is also planning to fly the regional routes with an MD-82 airplane later.

With the obtained aoc, Insel Air can now perform commercial flights. The company has requested four daily flights to Aruba and Bonaire, even though the frequency to Bonaire is unlimited.

Could it be someone told his mother to "get the 'l' out of there"?

Sorry to anyone who might be offended by my sick humor.
