Could someone email me the 800# for Continental Airlines Reservations? I left my travel phone book in the US. Thanks very much.

Breaking News

Continental Airlines signs new accord to bring a second non-stop flight to Bonaire from Newark, to begin December 16, 2006.

Since December, 2005, Continental Airlines has brought weekly non-stop flights from the U.S. mainland to Bonaire from Houston. Now, beginning December 16, 2006, Continental plans to add an additional non-stop flight from Newark, to assist with those living in the Northeast United States with easy flights to Bonaire. This new Continental flight will prove to be the first scheduled non-stop service from this area since 1980!

Hi Gary..Not exactly breaking news as this info was out a couple of seeks ago. It is however breaking if you mean a second non stop from Newark IN ADDITION to the Sat red eye ( I suspect you don't mean this) out of Newark.

My only worry in the winter months is using Newark. What if there is a blizzard...or you take a feeder flight to Newark and miss the Bonaire connection...what then? How do you get there? I hate these once a week deals. Continental just left Bonaire again, over an hour late.

call me, i only live 15 minutes away and have 2 pullout couches...just kidding...

While Newark does have the reputation as an airport with some of the worst on-time performance, I think Saturday night will be much calmer than the weekdays. The service from other large airports (Chicago, Boston, Atlanta) is frequent and reliable. My experience with them in the snow has been good. LAG seems to struggle more with the snow and shuts down much quicker than EWR.

I used to commute from Phoenix to New Jersey three times/month. On time performance is bad during peak hours, but the airport rarely suffers complete shutdowns. During off-hours, performance is very good.

I understand your concern, but a Saturday night flight out of Newark will be as reliable as a once-a-week flight can get. Since there is decent service to Curacao, Caracas, and Aruba out of Newark they should be able to deal with missed connections.

The Continental Newark to Bonaire flight does not seem a good option for Boston area travellers. Boston area people want an option that gets us to Bonaire in 2 flights, at a reasonable cost, with afternoon/evening arrival times and mid-day departure times, preferably on a connecting flight out of Boston that lands south of the snowbelt. This doesn't seem like hoping for too much because we had these conditions 20-25 years ago. To start in Boston and then land and take off in Newark doubles the chance of getting delayed/cancelled due to snow storms. Also, fares are very high. Dec. 15 departure - $880RT. March 10 departure - over $1100RT.

Oh Natalie, I was so afraid of this..so now NY area people have Sat. options, Air Jamaica and CO and we have none still...too bad..Boston would have been a good market reaching New England, the Canadian Maritimes and even the UK. Really bad news.

Nathalie,

What you're describing is Air Jamaica. :-( It really is sad they left Boston... If only they'd go to Manchester NH instead! :-)

I have to say right now Continental to Houston to Bonaire still sounds like the best choice for winter time travel to Bonaire, even if it is a red-eye...

Yipeeee.....Just booked our first non-stop flight out of Newark to Bonaire departing Feb 17 on the redeye for 2 weeks..
Sounds like it'll be good..nice dinner before the flight, get me seated, takeoff, a scotch on the rocks & 45 mins later I'll be in dream land. I SO hate the hassels of layovers..

Wait, the new flight from EWR is a red eye? What times please? Vince, what did you pay if I may so boldly ask?

I attempted to book the Continental from ATL via Houston to Bonaire, and it shows no ff seats available. Am Ex was not sure if they were all taken or if they had not been made available as yet. Anyone have an idea if 6 months ahead is the magic number? If so I'm a few days too early.

The flight leaves Neward on the 16th, not the 17th...at 11 pm and arrives at approx 5am Sunday morning, just in timr to wake Annie. It is indeed a redeye! It was just available yesterday and I have no doubt it is already booked...Suggest you go directly to www.continental.com. to check.

vince - you got a great fare, I just looked for the same departure & a 2/25 return and have a quote of $1738/ticket. This is business fare, but the seat locator still shows lots of open ones in coach...guess I'm still going through Curacao and look forward to flying non-stop another time...

We have reservations for a Continental flight out of Boston via Houston for Jan 5 returning Jan 20th. I just called Continental to see if I could change to the Newark flight. I could, but at the price of $100pp for the change penalty, and an additional $150pp for the flight..OUCH. That's all my beer money :-(

I booked this flight in March at the sweet price of $718pp. I guess I'll just leave it the way it is. I have to agree with Nathalie that flying through Newark mid-winter out of Boston doubles your chances for a weather delay....at least that's what I have to keep telling myself.

Hi, Checked out the Continental flight and you will pay top dollar for Presidents week if trying to book and return on the 25 now. Actually, I think all tickets for returning on the 25th are gone. The rest of the flights are a fair price, but I will not fly a red eye. Too bad times are bad. You would think they would fly at better times since they already have one red eye. I know they are looking for the best bang for their money and return flights to destinations after you arrive back at Newark, so understand it to a point. Great for those who don't mind a red eye, still, to me you still lose a day due to lack of sleep and all. Will stick to American.

Well Debbie, some people (like me) can sleep anywhere. I'll easily get 4 hours of sleep on the plane & probably another hour (on the floor) in the terminal waiting..Plus when we arrive it's 5 :30 am..Check in, unpack, go out for eggs benedict, come back & have a swim & snooze by the pool. Have lunch (if not too full from breakfast)& then we'll do an afternoon "checkout dive". Nice & Ezeeeeee!

It's all in how you approach it. The midnight departure time to me is a minor inconvenience to put up with for the benefits of a non stop flight which avoids all the nonsense, layovers, delays etc etc..

Hi Vince! Glad you can do that flight. Nice only one plane. We are going to be on Bonaire Feb. 7 - Mar. 4th, maybe we can all get together during the time you are there. This trip will be hubby, myself and our son, age 12. We all dive as well. Would love to meet you guys. :-)

Hi Debbie..I suspect we probably met (albiet briefly) at one of the Gibey's gatherings since you look familiar...Met your neighbors Pat & Mary Murphy last year & did a dive with them at Belmar as well as a day fishing on Piscatur. Since we are building down there, I suspect we'll be down much more frequently in the future & am sure we'll meet up.
