For those Northeast passengers, this new service to Aruba may cut down the price of travel to Bonaire.

On JetBlue's website:

NEW YORK, May 25, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- JetBlue Airways (Nasdaq:JBLU), New York's low-fare hometown airline, today requested authority from the U.S. Department of Transportation to provide international nonstop service to Aruba. Pending approval from both governments, the proposed service from John F. Kennedy International Airport would operate with daily Airbus A320 service to Aruba planned to begin September 15, 2006.(a)

Denise, the only choice is DAE..and if the flights on DAE are late, you miss your AUA connection and vice versa..I am always leary of the Aruba connections..

I hope this works for some..air in June is prohibitive...and July isn't much better..I have clients waiting to come but cannot find air. Air Jamaica is over 1k for June and some dates in July...

thanks Ann ... I am trying VERY hard to figure how we can afford our next vacation on Bonaire. We have friends who offered us free jet blue tickets and were going to use them for a FL visit. BUT, if I can get us to Aruba free then pay to get to Bonaire - maybe could do it!! And I am currently bidding on an auction for a villa for a week. If this does not work, I'll be rolling pennies - we really miss Bonaire :-) :-) :-)

Okay you already knew that. The good news is, Jet Blue is now listing Aruba on their route map.
Keep your fingers crossed.

Why am I not so excited about this? Aruba has so much air lift already. Does this greatly impact us so much? Please enlighten me. Boston alone has two charter companies servicing Aruba. Bonaire needs one more carrier..please one more..Continental, come on Newark...

Ann

Ann, for some of us in the northeast that prefer to fly through Aruba when we travel to Bonaire, it means one more flight available daily. Added bonuses are the slightly larger seats and individual television screens.

Of course it would also benefit those of us that ARE excited by this news, if there were more reliable flights available between the ABC's.

CON out of EWR/Newark non-stop into Bonaire would be a dream come true! Carole

any update on the possibility of EWR/BON? I spoke w/ CON reps at Beneath the Sea in March and they said it was under serious consideration. Last year CON announced the Houston route in late June and started service in December, so we're getting close to the time we may hear about it if it's going to happen.

I'm holding EWR/CUR tickets for February and will be the first person to call and gladly pay the $100 per person change fee the day they announced non-stop service to Bonaire.

It all depends on fuel prices. If fuel prices go up, the airlines cannot afford to open up new routes. Opening new routes is expensive!
