We did our first trip to Bonaire in April (everything was perfect!) so of course we are going back. We are booked in Feb but because of schedule changes will have to go thru Orlando or Miami (AA) to SJU (last trip did St. Louis to Dallas to SJU)- any suggestions or preferences between Orlando or Miami (both give us 1hr 30min in San Juan

AA in Miami has a new terminal for international flights. You used to have to wait in a long line to go through security with all of the domestic flyers, but last time we went (March 06), there was no line & everything went smoothly. I've never flown out of Orlando.

Judy and Rick, on your way to Bonaire if you are not originating in Miami you do not have to worry about the security lines that Jenny refers to as you will clear security at your point of origin. When you land in Miami (am guessing from St Louis based on your original post) you will be within the secure area and all the AA concourses are connected. I find both Orlando and Miami to be busy airports -- Orlando because of "the Mouse" and Miami because it is an international gateway. Having the option of getting to Curacao from Miami should you hit a huge glitch somewhere might make it more appealing -- always good to have a back-up!

If you are flying from Miami to San Juan that is not an international destination. San Juan is part of the US. They leave from the regular AA gates. You may have to go out of your arrival concourse when you arrive Miami and go back through security if you are transferring from 1 concourse that AA uses to another AA concourse. AA uses many different concourses at MIA

if it didnt make any diff in the connecting flight times, i would suggest orlando vs miami we have run that connection too close out of miami and barely made the plane after a long run through the airport in san juan with our carry on dive gear, i really think the chances of delay are a little greater out of miami

Norm, we put Zip ties on our luggage after they go through customs at LAX, and haven't had problems. There have been intermittent problems reported in SJ, but it has been a while. If you are carrying the valuables and dive equip in your carry on luggage, you should be fine.
