Am planning a trip to Bonaire in June, coming down on Air Jamaica Saturday/only service, and I'm wondering how reliable the service has been? The plane seems completely full down and back...would appreciate any info...

Alan,
AJ has been our choice even during their rough times. Chicago (ORD) is a good experience. We have been using them for years. We drive in from Indiana and park our car for $7 a night(prepaid) at Avistar Parking lot. www.avistarparking.com and a shuttle takes us to and from the airport. Checkout the site I posted for all the info about them.. No problems with AJ in the last 8 years... Ron

It would seem that AJ is recovering from their earlier woes, which is terrific.

You DO have to get to O'Hare at oh-dark-thirty to clear security and make the flight but that mid afternoon arrival on Bonaire and more importantly LATE afternoon departure is like getting an extra day of vacation. Avid divers can even "technically" get in couple a.m. dives the day before departure if their profiles haven't been too agressive. (Disclaimer- I'm not a dive doctor nor do I play one on TV - don't get bent and blame me)

Alan, my wife and I are on that same flight in May...and have been wondering the same thing, especially since we have a little less than an hour lay over in Jamaica. Hope we don't get in late..hate to miss out on a local Red Stripe!

I've flown AJ once before from Chicago to Curacao...no issues.

Thanks for the heads-up...two out of five of our trips with AJ to Bonaire have ended in cancelled flights with extra nites in Montego Bay...were wondering if things had improved of late, and it sounds like they have...we've learned not to cut it close on departure day vis a vis connecting flights in the states...as far as parking at ORD, it's not an issue as we get dropped off...Thanks again...

I'm not one for buying trip insurance but will the next time I fly AJ. Last July lost a week of Bonaire time because AJ cancelled the Montego Bay to Bonaire leg at the last minute due to Hurricane Emily. There now are two seasons in the Tropics; Hurricane and January thru June.
Good luck.

The layover in Montego Bay is long enough to be able to go to the restroom and get something to drink and still make your connections. The airport in not all that big. We made that connection on AJ from Houston 2X before they discontinued that route. We will now be using Continental out of Houston as it is a direct flight into Bonaire.

We are also using Continental from Chicago (ORD) to Houston and then to Bonaire. Leaving on Friday afternoon and getting into Bonaire early Sat morning. Doing the red eye. We will have the whole day on Saturday :-)
